Actor Julian Sands Is Missing In California
Actor Julian Sands has been reported missing in Southern California, last seen hiking Mount Baldy near Los Angeles.
British actor Julian Sands has been reported missing. The 65-year-old was last seen hiking Southern California’s 10,000-foot Mount Baldy, located northeast of Los Angeles. Authorities in San Bernardino County are currently searching for the A Room with a View star, who was reported missing on Friday. He is believed to be on the Baldy Bowl Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains.
The Julian Sands missing person report comes as severe storms pummeled Southern California’s mountains in recent weeks. Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the tough weather conditions have made the search more difficult. Ground crews were pulled off the mountain on Saturday evening due to avalanche risk.
But the Sheriff’s Department assures the public that the search for Julian Sands will continue. “We continue to search by helicopter and drones when weather permits,” the spokesperson said. Another ground search will begin when the weather improves, and the safety of ground crews can be guaranteed.
Since Julian Sands went missing, authorities have urged the public to stay away from Mount Baldy. Due to the storms, the area has become extremely dangerous. Even experienced hikers are having difficulty navigating the trail. “Forest Service is responsible for that area and we are working with them on that issue,” the spokesperson added.
The Sheriff’s Department is also searching for Bob Gregory who has been missing since Monday, ABC 7 reports. The Hawthorne resident was hiking in the nearby area of Crystal Lake in the San Gabriel Mountains. Meanwhile, representatives for Julian Sands did not respond to requests for comments from various media outlets.
Julian Sands has enjoyed a decades-long career in the film industry. After moving from Yorkshire to the United States, he has appeared in dozens of movies. He is best known for his work in The Killing Fields, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, and Leaving Las Vegas. His most notable television roles include playing Jor-El in Smallville, Yulish Rabitov in Banshee, and Vladimir Bierko in 24.
Most recently, the 65-year-old appeared in the drama Benediction along with Peter Capaldi. The actor currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and writer Evgenia Citkowitz, with whom he shares three children. Julian Sands was previously married to Sarah Sands, former editor of BBC Radio 4’s Today program. He has a son from that relationship
Interestingly, Julian Sands is no stranger to outdoor adventures. In a 2018 interview with The Guardian, the actor talked about his love of mountain climbing. He discussed the importance of embracing new adventures as he aged, and explained how he settled into a life of serial adventures and whatever lets him conquer his fears.
Speaking to the publication two years later, Julian Sands said he was happiest “close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning.” The 65-year-old also recalled a near-death experience in the early ’90s during a trip to the Andes. He detailed how he and three other hikers were caught in a terrible storm above 20,000 feet. “Some guys close to us perished, we were lucky,” he said.
