The legal drama for Britney Spears never seems to stop. The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer has made headlines for the last couple of years due in large part because of a conservatorship that her father, Jamie Spears, controlled for the better part of a decade plus. With a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs for the performer, who once had a residency in Las Vegas, the legal stranglehold that Jamie Spears seemed to have over his daughter played out prominently on social media and in the courtroom. Now, it appears that Jamie Spears may be in even more hot water as Britney Spears’ team has won a victory in court over surveillance allegations.
According to a report by Variety, a judge has ordered Jamie Spears to be deposed and will be submitting documents within the next 30 days. The deposition will take place in Los Angeles, California and this order was requested by Britney Spears and her legal team. The deposition and documents in question are specific to electronic surveillance that the singer has alleged took place while she was under her father’s imposed conservatorship. Per Harper’s Bazaar, this latest victory for the pop star demonstrates that the judge believes there may be truth to Britney Spears’ allegations, including revelations that he employed a security firm to surveil his daughter, bugged her bedroom in order to record private conversations, and monitor her phone usage.
In July 2021, Jamie Spears was removed as conservator of Britney Spears’s estate, with the conservatorship being terminated in November of the same year. Since then, the singer that is known for hits like “…Baby One More Time” and “Toxic” has attempted to reclaim her life and start fresh with a new perspective. As reported by Vogue, the Princess of Pop married her longtime boyfriend, Sam Ashgari, in a lavish wedding held at her Los Angeles home. Several celebrities were in attendance including long-time friends Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, and husband Carter Reum, Paris’ mom Kathy Hilton, actor Ansel Elgort, musician will.i.am, and fashion icon Donatella Versace. Pictures from the wedding were posted to Britney Spears’s Instagram account, which caused quite a lot of interest from fans.
While it seems that Britney Spears has been winning in court battles and picking up the pieces of her personal life, there doesn’t seem to be an end to her ongoing feuds with family members. E! News reported earlier this year that Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn Spears has written a tell-all book entitled Things I Should Have Said about their family and the relationship she has with her famous sister. The elder Spears didn’t seem too thrilled at the time with the book’s success as she referred to her sister as “scum.” The sisters have apparently reconciled some of their differences with one another, but they don’t seem to be on the best of terms just yet. For now, fans appear to continue looking at Britney Spears’ social media accounts to decipher her next moves and follow along as the courtroom drama plays out in the headlines for months to come.
