After being found guilty of reckless assault and harassment by a Manhattan jury on December 18, 2023, Jonathan Majors is granting his first interview to Disney-owned ABC News. The exclusive chat with anchor Linsey Davis will air on Good Morning America on January 8, giving audiences a glimpse into the actor’s perspective following the verdict and its repercussions.

Fired From Marvel

The consequences were swift, as Marvel Entertainment, another Disney division, promptly dropped Jonathan Majors from his recurring role as Kang the Conqueror in various film and television projects.

His abrupt firing from the Marvel Studios has cast a shadow over Majors’ acting career, leaving many to wonder about his future in the industry.

Public Relations Strategy

Opting for an interview with ABC News is a two-fold public relations strategy. Jonathan Majors may use it to shed light on the legal proceedings and appeal, especially concerning the use of text messages in the case.

The interview could also be an opportunity for the actor to navigate the delicate terrain of his severed ties with Marvel.

With such a high-profile gig abruptly taken away, Jonathan Majors might share his feelings about the situation.

This could potentially include contractual matters, behind-the-scenes dynamics, or even hints at a rift between him and the Marvel powerhouse.

Just The Beginning?

The interview on Good Morning America is expected to be just the beginning, with additional segments airing on GMA3 and an extended version streaming on Linsey Davis’ ABC News Live program Prime later that day.

Further insight into Jonathan Majors’Majors’ situation will be provided on January 11 with a half-hour special on IMPACT x Nightline, exclusive to Hulu, featuring unaired segments from the interview.

Before his firing, Marvel Studios was already contemplating moving forward without Jonathan Majors due to his legal troubles.

Other companies swiftly severed ties with Majors when the allegations surfaced, leading to his immediate removal from a U.S. Army ad campaign. He was also dropped from multiple movie projects he was previously associated with.

Disney withdrew his film, Magazine Dreams, from its planned December 2023 theatrical release calendar. Before his legal challenges, Jonathan Majors was on an upward trajectory in Hollywood.

He had recently starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III, with promising prospects as the primary antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jonathan Majors previously earned praise for his role in HBO’s Lovecraft Country and had notable appearances in films such as The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods, and Devotion.

The official sentencing is scheduled for February 6, and there’s a chance that the actor might end up spending a year in jail.

No Jail Time?

However, legal experts believe it’s highly improbable that Jonathan Majors will face any actual jail time since the aforementioned text messages presented as evidence during the case could potentially support Majors’ legal team in filing an appeal.

According to Shulman & Hill attorney Cary London, there is a 99 percent chance that the judge will give Jonathan Majors three years probation, anger management, and possibly some community service. This is largely due to the ruling being the defendant’s first conviction.
