Johnny Depp took the stand for presumably the final time in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. During this final examination by Depp’s legal counsel, he was brought to testify against the claims that had been made by Heard and her legal team. During this final testimony, Depp poured his heart about his feelings toward this entire endeavor and the events that took place after the pair had divorced. Depp claimed that all the claims by Heard were “unimaginably brutal, cruel and all false.” He also stated that “I have never in my life committed sexual battery, physical abuse.”
Amber Heard told some harrowing stories about Johnny Depp during her time on the stand, which included the actor allegedly penetrating her with a liquor bottle, beating her up, choking her, and plenty of other downright heinous acts. However, Depp’s legal team has proposed that her claims have all been made up this entire time and that the actor would have never engaged in any of these wild accusations. Depp also reiterated this while on the stand for the final time. He added, “all these outlandish, outrageous stories of me committing these things, and living with it for six years and waiting to bring the truth out.” The actor has long claimed that he is not capable of committing such violent acts and never would.
The Johnny Depp defamation trial is set to start closing statements on May 27th, which has been ordered by Judge Penney Azcarate. Both parties have revealed some harrowing accusations about one another, with expert witnesses taking the stand to corroborate stories or refute them. Kate Moss took the stand and denied claims that Depp ever abused her or pushed her down the stairs, which is a rumor that Heard brought up while she was testifying. A doctor was brought in who also claimed that Depp’s story about his severed finger was allegedly not consistent with the pictures that were presented in court. There has been plenty of wild stories and claims told in the courtroom, but now the trial is nearing its end.
With the defamation trial wrapping up, we could see a decision made by the jury and judge by next week. Johnny Depp is suing for $50 million based on defamation of character that he has received because of Amber Heard naming him as her abuser. Amber Heard is also countersuing for $100 million in damages. Neither party has opted for any kind of settlement offer at this juncture, so the trial will likely go to the jury’s decision. That decision could come early next week, depending on how fast it takes the jury to deliberate.
Johnny Depp and Anber Heard have been going at one another for the better part of three years, and now the end is drawing near for this case. It has been rumored that both parties will seek an appeal should they lose, but most of the evidence has already been shown in court. Now we must all wait to hear about the conclusion of the trial that has captured the attention of people worldwide. Someone is going to have pay millions of dollars in damages.
