The ongoing sage between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues. While the legal battles are over, Heard and Depp’s lawyers still have words for each other. Recently, Amber Heard appeared for an interview on the Today show with Savannah Guthrie. Now Depp’s lawyers are firing back and accusing Heard of dwelling on the trial while Depp is moving on.
The full interview with Amber Heard is set to air tonight on Dateline, where Heard will talk about her infamous trial with Johnny Depp and present evidence that wasn’t accepted by the judge to be used in court. As reported by the New York Post, Heard mentions in the interview that she has a binder dating back to 2011 with notes taken by her doctor, reporting the instances of alleged abuse from Depp. The binder was ruled as hearsay in court.
If you somehow missed the media circus surrounding the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, Depp sued Heard for defamation due to an op-ed Heard wrote for the Washington Post alleging that she was a victim of domestic abuse. Though she didn’t name any abusers, it was assumed by Depp (and others in the industry) that the article was about him. Following the publication of the article, Depp lost key roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchises. In response to the lawsuit, Amber Heard and her legal team counter-sued Depp for defamation.
The trial recently reached its conclusion, with the court ruling heavily in favor of Johnny Depp. The jury sided with Depp on all three of his defamation cases and side with Heard on one of hers. With Amber Heard being held liable for far more monetary damages than Depp, it was decidedly a legal win for Depp. In response to Johnny Depp’s lawyers criticizing the Heard interview, Heard’s lawyers suggest to Insider that Depp also sit down for an hour-long interview with Guthrie if he has a problem with what Heard is saying.
Though Amber Heard and Johnny Depp will likely both feel the effects of this very public airing of dirty laundry for a while, it seems that both of them are on the path to getting back to their careers. Despite severe fan pushback, Heard will be reprising her role in the upcoming sequel to Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Heard stars as Mera, opposite Jason Mamoa’s Arthur Curry/Aquaman. Despite earlier rumors that Heard was nearly cut from the movie due to chemistry issues with Momoa and Heard testifying in court that her role was pared down, it seems like her scenes will be staying relatively intact.
For Johnny Depp, he’ll be appearing in an upcoming period piece titled Jeanne du Barry. Depp will be playing Louis XV opposite Maiwenn in the titular role. Maiwenn also directs. Jeanne du Barry is currently in pre-production with a release date yet to be announced. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released on March 17, 2023.
