Jessica Chastain had the opportunity to dress up for the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend, and she took it. Jessica Chastain looks fierce in the selfie. It’s hard to guess what she might be feeling in that picture. Is she confident that she’ll win the Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role trophy? Is she psyching herself up for the many red carpet interviews ahead? Judging by how she reacted at the podium as she accepted her award for her work in The Eyes of Tammy Faye Bakker, she was likely nervous. When she got up there, she claimed to be stunned at the win. You can get a bigger look at her chic outfit in the video of her accepting her win below.
In her speech, Jessica Chastain says that the movie was ten years in the making. She was both a producer and the lead actress in the film, so it makes sense that her involvement happened over such a long period of time. The movie tells the real-life story of Tammy Faye Bakker, a controversial public figure and televangelist. Most of what the narrative in the media for Bakker has surrounded her husband, his crimes, and Bakker’s role as a televangelist. She’s been portrayed in skits on Saturday Night Live in the past.
In The Eyes of Tammy Faye Bakker, Jessica Chastain focused on telling more about the real-life woman’s upbringing, her experiences in her marriage with Jim Bakker (played by Andrew Garfield), and her advocacy work for HIV patients during the initial height of the crisis. Of course, the role also saw Jessica Chastain transform into a well-known public figure who didn’t look much like Chastain herself. Her makeup artist worked so hard on her transformation that Chastain suffered permanent damage due to all of the heavy makeup stretching out her skin. She reported that she sat in the makeup artist’s chair for anywhere from four to seven hours each day before arriving on set. That may sound extreme, but so was the change in her look. This weekend’s trophy was a big win for Jessica Chastain. It speaks to how much work she’s been doing in recent years. She’s already released one movie in 2022 with The 355, a spy thriller that Jessica Chastain worked on for a long time. Fans are still waiting on an official release date for three more projects expected to release this year. One of them is George and Tammy, where Chastain will be taking on another real-life public figure as Tammy Wynette, the country music singer. It seems fair to expect that her name will be seen in a lot more headlines in the years to come.
