The Buddy Holly Story story star Gary Busey has found himself in a shameful situation. Last weekend, (August 12th through 14th) Busey was a special guest of the Monster-Mania Convention at the  Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. MovieWeb reports that during Busety’s attendance at the Doubletree Hotel event, he was detained by Police Authorities under a number of charges that include two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, one count of attempting criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, and one disorderly conduct count of harassment.

Gary Busey and his representatives have yet to respond to the disgraceful acts the 78-year-old actor has been accused of, but Cherry Hill’s Police Lt. Robert Scheunemann did in fact make a statement on the numerous incidents that the actor is embroiled in, telling The Philadelphia Inquirer; “It was about contact. It was about touching.” If the allegations of these distressing actions indeed prove to be true and given the swift action local authorities took in detaining Busey following their investigations that looks to be increasingly likely, this is an example of an extreme abuse of power from a figure known in the public domain.

Gary Busey is an actor and accomplished drummer. His film career, which now appears to be in severe jeopardy as a result of his alleged criminal behavior, began in the early seventies with a role in the 1971 movie Angel Warriors and his big break came with the eponymous role in the 1978 movie The Buddy Holly Story. Busey’s leading role in the 1978 movie saw him take on vocal and guitar performances and earned him an Oscar nomination. Other notable roles the actor took on included the assassin Mr Joshua in 1987’s Lethal Weapon opposite Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as well as Peter Keyes in Predator 2 (again opposite Glover). The actor also had starring roles in Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break – sharing the screen with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze – and in the double Oscar-nominated Under Siege. Busey has also starred in a couple of installments in the Cult B-Movie Sharknado franchise. Busey has also appeared in multiple reality television and game shows including Celebrity Family Feud, Impractical Jokers, Dancing With the Stars, Celebrity Wife Swap, Celebrity Apprentice, and Celebrity Big Brother.

This isn’t the first time that Gary Busey has been subject to accusations of gross misconduct. He was arrested for drug charges in 1995 and six years later he was arrested on counts of spousal abuse after concerns were raised by his ex-wife. As well as this, Busey was accused of sexual abuse by a female employee of the Celebrity Apprentice in 2016, citing incidents from the actor’s time on the show in 2011. This latest incident that Busey has become embroiled in at the Monster-Mania convention appears to be the latest in a decade-long trend of problematic and indecent actions. If the actor is indeed found guilty of the actions, let’s hope that suitable justice is carried out and that the victims involved are given the support that they rightfully deserve.
