Gal Gadot Speaks Out About The Ray Fisher Accusations

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter published a bombshell piece detailing actor Ray Fisher’s accusations against Joss Whedon. The director’s behavior became a significant problem for Fisher and other cast members while they were filming the troubled Justice League. One of these cast members, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot, reportedly found herself on the receiving end of Whedon’s threats and quickly took her issues with him to the higher-ups at Warner Bros.
Included in the aforementioned article in The Hollywood Reporter (via CinemaBlend), was a statement from Gal Gadot about the situation. Here’s what she said:
I had my issues with [Whedon] and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner.
Obviously, Gal Gadot is maintaining her professionalism by skimping on details, but all of this does beg the question: just how far did Joss Whedon’s alleged abuse and lack of professionalism go? That part is unclear, but it had to have been serious enough for her to take her complaints to DC’s big wigs.
Joss Whedon allegedly threatened Gal Gadot when the actress came to him with issues she had regarding her character’s portrayal in the blockbuster. A witness involved with the production recalled how Whedon responded, saying that “he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie.”
Couple Gal Gadot’s situation with the allegations of racism leveled against both Whedon and DC executive Geoff Johns, and you’ve got some serious internal problems going on at Warner Bros. Apparently, Geoff Johns did not want Superman’s father to be Black. Whedon and Johns also actively campaigned to have Ray Fisher’s character, Cyborg/Victor Stone, say his trademark “booyah” catchphrase. Fisher resisted because he found it odd that the only Black member of the main cast was the only one with a goofy catchphrase. Eventually, after much pressure from Whedon, Fisher caved and shot the scene.
Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher are not the only people who have come forward about Joss Whedon’s problematic behavior. Earlier this year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Charisma Carpenter revealed the extent of Whedon’s alleged abuse, prompting her Buffy co-stars to lend her their support publicly. The allegations against the once-popular director continue to mount, and as the situation reached its breaking point, Whedon abruptly left his HBO show The Nevers.
Joss Whedon’s demoralizing behavior has obviously impacted many people, and it is likely that more will come forth with stories and examples as this fiasco evolves.
