Elliot Page seems to be feeling more comfortable in his own skin a year after first revealing to the world that he is transgender. Earlier this week, Elliot Page took to his Instagram to share a shirtless selfie that shows off his impressive sick pack. The star stands confidently in front of a mirror with a hand in the pocket of his black sweatpants with black slippers and socks to match. He notes in the caption that a mirror selfie that displays his incredibly ripped physique is simply his way of testing whether or not his new phone works — and is definitely not a total thirst trap for his 5.7 million followers.
This isn’t the first time that the actor has taken to social media to show off his abs since revealing to the world in an emotional letter that he identifies as a male and finally felt comfortable living life publicly as a man for the first time. After undergoing top surgery at some point in the last year, Page first debuted his ripped midsection in a May 24 Instagram post of himself coming out of a pool. At the time, he noted that it was his first foray into the world of swim trunks, tagging the post “#transjoy #transisbeautiful.”
Elliot Page opened up about coming out as a transgender person shortly after the big social media post in a lengthy interview with Time magazine. He further gave the public some insight into his journey in a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey as part of her Oprah Conversations series. Fans have been largely supportive of his decision to live in a way he’s comfortable with.
Many immediately wondered if this would mean that his character, Vanya Hargreeves in Netflix’s hit science fiction series Umbrella Academy when it returns for season 3. Vanya Hargreeves is a cisgender woman in the show whose superpower involves channeling sound and her emotions to dispel energy. Fortunately, they did not have to speculate for long. The same day that Elliot Page came out, Variety reported that he would continue to play the character on Umbrella Academy. There’s no word yet on if Vanya will transition or if Page will simply continue to play her as a woman despite being a man in real life.
Fortunately, fans will likely get their answers sooner rather than later. On November 10, 2020, it was announced that the show had been greenlit for a third season after having an immensely successful season 2 debut. In February, Elliot Page shared a photo from the set, showing the symbol for season 3 — an umbrella with a sparrow perched atop it. This is likely a reference for how season 2 ended when our heroes tumbled through time to find themselves in an alternate reality in which their father founded the Sparrow Academy rather than the Umbrella Academy. What this means for our heroes, particularly Vanya, remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear, the next time we see Elliot Page in the role of Vanya Hargreeves, the character will be significantly more ripped than fans are used to.
