See Dwayne Johnson Visit The Store He Used To Shoplift
This article is more than 2 years old
Dwayne Johnson wasn’t always the wholesome hero he is today. Like every other kid, he wasn’t above getting into some mischief, including shoplifting candy bars from his local convenience store. The superstar recently posted on Instagram that he revisited this old haunting ground to right the wrong.
In a separate post, Dwayne Johnson explains that as a youth of 14, he would stop by a particular 7-11 convenience store and steal a Snickers bar every morning on his way to the gym where he was building the physique that made him famous. He explained that the cashier always turned a blind eye to the offense and it became part of his pre-workout ritual. He described himself at that time as being “broke as hell,” and indicated that part of the reason he’d never addressed it before was that his family was evicted from their Hawaii home in 1987.
This weekend, Dwayne Johnson was in Hawaii and stopped by the 7-11 to “right the wrong” by buying up every Snickers bar in the store with money instead of shoplifting skills. That meant every Snickers bar of every flavor and size the store had available. He surprised the cashier with his request but surprised customers even more when he also bought the items of everyone in the line after him.
After years of working out and a stint on the University of Miami football team, Dwayne Johnson followed his father Rocky’s footsteps and began a career with the World Wrestling Federation. He was alternately a hero (face) or villain (heel) throughout his career and was wildly popular with fans for his handsome looks and brash attitude. Although he officially retired from wrestling in 2019, his acting career started superseding his wrestling career in the 2010s.
In 2001, Dwayne Johnson made his first appearance on the big screen as The Scorpion King in the smash hit The Mummy Returns, which was followed up by a spin-off movie about his character. This was his first step toward a prolific acting career that encompasses action, comic relief, sensitivity, and intelligence. The Rock is generally not typecast as a brute despite his huge muscles, and when he is, as in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, it is for the comedy.
He is arguably best known for playing Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious franchise, but has almost 100 roles to his name, from action adventures like Jungle Cruise to comedies like Be Cool and even kids’ movies such as The Tooth Fairy. He notably showed off his Samoan pride and fantastic singing voice playing the demi-god Maui in the Disney animated feature Moana.
Publically, Dwayne Johnson is also known for being a very agreeable person with a heart of gold, and his recent outing emphasized this. A man who will go to such great lengths over a childhood wrong is someone whose integrity is on display for all to see. As if to amplify this point, he himself finished off his Instagram post with wisdom from The Rock:
“We can’t change the past and some of the dumb stuff we may have done, but every once in a while we can add a little redeeming grace note to that situation — and maybe put a big smile on some stranger’s faces.” You absolutely have, Dwayne Johnson!
