As Sean “Diddy” Combs sits in his jail cell awaiting the outcome of an appeal filed for bail modification, the disgraced hip-hop mogul’s attorneys are busying themselves preparing for another hearing that they hope will show a judge proof of the Department of Homeland Security undermining their client’s right to a fair trial. The action in question that Diddy’s legal team is scrutinizing revolves around a surveillance video from 2016 that shows the performer physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at an upscale Los Angeles hotel.

Diddy and company maintain that the Department of Homeland Security intentionally leaked the tape to the media with the intention of interfering with the musician/singer’s trial.

Did The Government Purposely Leak The Footage?

According to Diddy’s defense team, the footage was only leaked to CNN for a singular purpose. The federal government worked to “mortally wound the reputation and the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations.” Diddy’s lawyers state that the prosecution could have used the tape in a trial setting, alongside “other evidence that gives it context and meaning.” They are infuriated that the government instead used the tape’s contents in what they are referring to as both prejudicial and damaging.

The legal team is lead by attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, who will be presenting their arguments to Judge Arun Subramanian. They are seeking four forms of relief, each one related to the aforementioned leaked video.

Diddy Issues Apology

Soon after CNN first aired the footage of Diddy’s violent assault on Ventura, the fallen music icon was quick to respond with an apology for what he referred to as “inexcusable behavior.” The video shows Diddy, clad only in a towel, kicking and hitting the woman before dragging her along the hotel’s hallway.

The Arrest

Ventura filed a civil lawsuit against Diddy, which the pair settled in less than a day back in November of 2023. The court filings were the first in a domino effect that eventually led to federal agents raiding two homes owned by Diddy and taking with them multiple pieces of evidence. In September, Diddy was placed under arrest on federal warrants that charged him with racketeering and forced prostitution.

Diddy Faces Life Behind Bars

If convicted, Diddy faces potential life behind bars with a minimum of 15 years. But the legal woes that he is currently enduring go well beyond the criminal charges that were filed by federal authorities. There is now a litany of persons who allege that Diddy physically and/or sexually assaulted them and are now seeking civil court filings.

To date, more than 100 people have come forward with intentions to file cases in civil court against Diddy. The star’s mother went on the record only days ago and accused many of his detractors as “seeking a financial gain” from her wealthy and successful son.

Diddy Will Get His Date In Court

No dates for any of the civil lawsuit trials have been set and there is not a date for the criminal trial. Diddy’s lawyers are requesting that their client get his day in court in April or May 2025. The prosecution has yet to file a preference for a trial date.

Diddy will have his third bail hearing where a judge will determine whether or not he can go free with restrictions or if he’ll continue to sit in an isolated unit until his eventual criminal trial.
