David Hasselhoff has managed to make a number of surprising and humorous appearances throughout pop culture over the years. From a weird cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to yet another weird cameo in the bonkers Kung Fury, the former Knight Rider and Baywatch star has made a name for himself by taking on wild and ridiculous roles over the last few decades. One of those was in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie back in 2004, and now a hilarious prop from that production is up for sale.
If you go to the auction site LiveAuctioneers, you can find an entire auction scheduled for David Hasselhoff’s many pieces of movie memorabilia. One of those is a giant replica of the actor that was used for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. The actor himself tweeted out a video showing the model replica and it is quite a sight to behold. If that doesn’t give you nightmares, what else will? David Hasselhoff is starting the bid for the giant replica at $100,000. So it looks like if you really want to add an enormous David Hasselhoff to your collection, it is going to cost you a pretty penny. As of this writing, the auction is set to begin live bidding in fifteen days. Who knows just how high the price for this one-of-a-kind prop will get? Conversely, is anyone going to pay $100,000 or more for something this absurd? We will have to wait and see.
You might be asking yourself: why does a gargantuan replica of David Hasselhoff exist in the first place? In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the animated characters ride on the back of the Baywatch actor during a section of the movie. While the film has the actual actor in the film, the animators needed a stand-in for the sequence when they animated it. So, the production manufactured this model for reference. And after the production was over, they gifted the replica to David Hasselhoff as a memento of the movie.
Now, it looks like the actor is selling off a bunch of his collection and is including the massive replica among the items. You can view the entire catalog of items right here. Another one of the most notable items is David Hasselhoff’s own Knight Rider car, known as KITT in the cult series. You could also win a lunch date with the actor for no less than $10,000. Sadly, this probably means that the actor is in need of some cash right now. The fact that he has to sell off some pretty impressive pieces of memorabilia probably means he is hurting for money. Still, it means you have a chance to own some pretty cool pieces of pop culture history.
If anyone does end up buying the huge David Hasselhoff replica, we definitely need a follow-up story on whoever it is that wanted that and where they will be storing it. What a time to be alive in which you can buy a giant version of the man that once played Nick Fury.
