Nickelodeon Star Arrested For Domestic Violence On Christmas Eve
Darris Love, childhood star of The Secret World of Alex Mack, was arrested on Christmas Eve, allegedly, for striking his girlfriend.
The Holidays are a time to get together with family, celebrate the season, hope for a better New Year, and in the case of another child star, get arrested for domestic abuse. TMZ reports that Darris Love, most famous for playing the best friend on The Secret World of Alex Mack, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department after getting into a fight with his girlfriend. The girlfriend claims she went back to the home to pick up some items when an argument ensued, and allegedly the former Nickelodeon star hit her in the back of the head.
Reportedly, Darris Love only spent 10 hours in police custody before making bond, which was set for $20,000. The charge was for misdemeanor domestic assault, following a prior run-in that the former child star has had with police, which was a case of mistaken identity. In 2018, the CSI guest-star was detained, for five hours, near an Apple store when police thought he was part of a gang of robbers, despite the star and his then-girlfriend attempting to explain why he was innocent.
That situation ended with Darris Love filing a lawsuit alleging police brutality and racial profiling. The details of the lawsuit are under wraps, and while the 2018 incident was one in which Love was innocent, the Christmas Eve arrest is allegedly going much differently. The 42-year old made multiple posts on social media after posting bail, though he never addressed the arrest.
Darris Love was 14 when he starred in The Secret World of Alex Mack, which starred Larisa Oleynik as the titular character with the abilities to become a puddle, telekinesis, and shoot bolts of electricity. Paradise Valley, the setting for the show, is a corporate town run by Paradise Valley Chemical, requiring the kids to keep everything quiet out of fear of what the greedy CEO would do to Alex. The series was part of the famous SNICK (Saturday Night Nick) lineup with The Ren & Stimpy Show, All that, and Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, before being replaced by Kenan & Kel after four seasons.
While he acted for over 20 years, Darris Love hasn’t had another consistent starring role since he was a teenager. The child star has guest-starred on series like Angel, ER, NYPD Blue, Without a Trace, CSI, Shameless, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Since 2017, the former Nick actor has only appeared on The Secret World of Alex Mack 20 Year Reunion, maintaining a low profile in Los Angeles since then.
Child stars and running afoul of law enforcement tend to go hand-in-hand, with most young actors not able to sustain the level of success and fame that they had early in life, often being taken advantage of by greedy parents or mentors. Darris Love has, to this point, managed to avoid falling into the typical traps of childhood stardom. Even with his Christmas Eve arrest for domestic assault, the full story has yet to come out, and it remains to be seen if Love will ever stand trial.
