Dairy Queen Is Removing Its Staple Ice Cream Treat And Customers Are Upset
Dairy Queen is reportedly discontinuing its popular cherry dipped cone.
Dairy Queen reintroduced its classic, much-beloved cherry-dipped ice cream cone to much fanfare back in May 2022. However, just one year later, the fast food chain has run out of its cherry dip, and they’re not planning on making any more. Per Food Network, a TikTok user who works at Dairy Queen has confirmed that the treat is being discontinued.
Dairy Queen, for those unfamiliar with the brand, is pretty much an ice cream chain that pretends to be a fast-food restaurant. It offers foods that gives you just enough of an excuse to stop for lunch, grabbing a treat while you’re there.
One of Dairy Queen’s specialties is an ice cream cone dipped in a hard flavored shell. The most common flavor is chocolate, but it also offers cherry and churro-flavored dips. The cherry dip was popular with patrons, but apparently not popular enough to keep around, as the TikTok user announced.
The user, known only as “Miranda,” runs an account that promotes the Dairy Queen in Shelby Township, MI — a suburb in northern Detroit. The unofficial account, which has more followers than the official Dairy Queen’s Tiktok and Twitter accounts combined, regularly announces new Dairy Queen treats and demonstrates the process of decorating cakes. However, the video in question has Miranda mournfully telling her audience that the cherry-dipped cone that once the store’s inventory of the cone dip is gone, the flavor will no longer be available.
The comments underneath the video almost unanimously express outrage at the cherry cone dip’s removal from the menu. Some have asked Miranda whether the discontinuation means that Dairy Queen will also be getting rid of the cherry-flavored Dilly Bar — an ice cream bar on a stick covered in a similar hard dip. Miranda said that she’s not sure what the cherry Dilly Bar’s fate will be, since they all come pre-made.
Dairy Queen is reportedly going to replace the cherry dip with another flavor. The new flavor has not been officially announced, but Miranda has claimed that Dairy Queen will be bringing back the Butterscotch dip this summer. Whether or not that will be enough to placate fans of the disappearing cherry dip remains to be seen.
Even if the butterscotch dip isn’t enough to satisfy the fans of cherry dip, the dessert chain has no shortage of treats to make up for its absence. Dairy Queen offers sundaes, parfaits, ice cream bars, banana spits, and its iconic Blizzards — a mixture of thick ice cream and your choice of candy and toppings mixed inside. So, while fans of cherry-dipped cones may be vocal, it’s unlikely that the cone’s absence will make a significant dent in Dairy Queen’s profits.
In honor of the loss of cherry-dipped ice cream, Miranda made a video listing some of her favorite discontinued Dairy Queen items. The video includes the Midnight Truffle Blizzard, its Waffle Bowl sundaes, its Oreo Cheesecake Blizzard, and its Funnel Cake a la mode.
