See Cardi B Busting Out of A Swirling Blue Dress
Cardi B's Grammy Awards dress was amazing.
Cardi B is looking both sexy and sophisticated in her latest Instagram post, which shows the rapper looking thoughtful in a royal blue dress whose sleeves swirl up around her head artistically, almost like water. Cardi B captioned the series of snaps, some of which were taken at the Grammys, the event for which she was all dressed up, “True Blue, baby I love you.” The caption did double-duty as a nod to her dress color and a nod to Madonna’s hit 1986 song, “True Blue.”
Cardi B attended the Grammys with her husband Offset, who we can only assume agrees with us that she looked stunning in her skin-tight, cleavage-baring gown. The dress landed the songwriter on multiple “best dressed” lists after the Grammys were over, with fashion fans drooling over the Gaurav Gupta couture gown’s unique swirling design and long, trailing train.
While Cardi B didn’t bring home any Grammys this year, she has received much recognition from the awards show in the past. She received her first Grammy nomination five years ago for her song “Bodak Yellow,” and became the first solo female rapper to win the Best Rap Album award the next year for her album Invasion of Privacy.
Invasion of Privacy was also nominated for Album of the Year that same year, with two of the songs from the album being nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rap Performance as well. The Album of the Year Nomination put Cardi B in good company: she was only the third female rapper in history to be nominated for the award at the Grammys, after Lauryn Hill in 1999 and Missy Elliot in 2004.
Cardi B has received recognition for her collaborations with other artists as well. At the 62nd annual Grammys, she got a nomination for Best Rap Performance with her husband, Offset, on their song “Clout.” The year before that, she was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Girls Like You,” with Maroon 5.
Cardi B hasn’t just been a hit at the Grammys, however. She also received nominations for the Brit Award for International Female Solo Artist in both 2019 and 2021, once again joining Missy Elliott as the only two female rappers to receive more than one nod in that category.
Cardi B also won the Billboard Music Award for Top Rap Female Artist three years in a row, as well as the BET Album of the year for Invasion of Privacy the same year she won at the Grammys.
With Cardi B’s long list of awards from everything from the Grammys to the Latin American Music Awards, she has become one of the winningest female rappers in history. But these days, being a world-famous rapper is only one aspect of her identity.
According to Yahoo News, she has been holding back on releasing a new album. It has been over four years since her last one, but she just hasn’t felt the “spark” she needs to finish another one yet. “When it comes to the music,” she said, “I just be feeling like I don’t be liking anything. I feel like I got so many songs. I just don’t like nothing. Like nothing is good enough.”
She also says that she has been having anxiety over the fact that, once she drops her next album, she will have to leave her two young children to go out on tour to promote it, which is something she just doesn’t feel right about doing just yet.
But, in spite of feeling like it has become too much of a “job” instead of a pleasure, Cardi B knows she has to get back out there and reconnect to the music she loves. Maybe that trip to the Grammys could be just what she needs to get her in the mood to write new music!
