Cameron Diaz Surprises With Baby Announcement At 51
51-year-old Actress Cameron Diaz has taken a pretty notable break from acting over the last decade, with the last film she was in being 2014’s Annie.
However, the star has not been idle but is evidently focusing more on the family side of her life. She and her husband, Benji Madden, already had their first child, a girl named Raddix, in 2020. And now the couple have just shared that they have welcomed their second child into the world, news that comes as a shock with this being the first mention that the couple were expecting.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden shared the news in a joint Instagram post, revealing that they now have a newborn son named Cardinal.
“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden. He is awesome, and we are all so happy he is here!”
No Pictures At This Time
They went on to explain that they will not be sharing any pictures of Cardinal at this time to keep this special moment in their lives private for a time. But they reiterated just how incredible this addition to their lives is, saying “We are feeling so blessed and grateful. Sending much love from our fam to yours. Best wishes and Good Afternoon!!”
Cameron Diaz Back To Acting
Cardinal will no doubt be in the public eye soon enough, with parents as famous as hers. Cameron Diaz will end her decade-long drought from acting later this year with the release of Back in Action. She will star alongside Jamie Foxx and Glenn Close.
Meanwhile, Diaz’s husband, Benji Madden, is of course best known for his career as the lead guitarist of the rock band Good Charlotte. With both parents in the public eye so much of the time, it is truly a surprise that they were able to keep their coming child a secret from the public.
Keeping Things Under Wraps
Many celebrity parents have been opting to go more private with the births of their children lately. For example, actress Halle Bailey, who played Ariel in the live-action The Little Mermaid, likewise kept quiet about her coming child, only breaking the news after he was born.
Cameron Diaz has had enough experience navigating a very public career herself to know the ugly side of fame and attention, so it is understandable why she would wish to shield her newborn from the experience for the time being.
After Acting, Writing Books
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden were married back in 2015, shortly after Diaz had her last major film release. She publicly referred to herself as retired from acting, but kept going with other projects.
She became a New York Times bestseller for her 2013 health book The Body Book. She also released another health book in 2016 titled The Longevity Book. Diaz is often praised for her ability to stay in shape as she ages, so it makes sense she would have the wisdom to put together multiple books on the topic.
Big Family?
In earlier interviews, it has been noted that Benji Madden wanted a big family, so it seems Cameron Diaz has been on board with that as well. Their first child Raddix they had via surrogate.
We shall see if two children is their idea of a “big family” or if more may be on the way in the future. What is certain is that with a newborn son and a return to movies happening this year, Diaz will now be much more busy.
