Britney Spears Face-Slapped Because She Wanted Pic With NBA’s Newest Star?
After initial reports from TMZ suggested Britney Spears was backhanded across the face by a member of Victor Wembanyama’s security team, new information provided to Deadline by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has shown that to be false.
In fact, as security footage has since shown, the pop star was struck in the face by her own hand after Wembanyama’s head of security swatted her hand away from the Spurs player’s shoulder without looking, making this case one of the most highly publicized games of “why are you hitting yourself” in entertainment news.

The incident, which occurred just outside the Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel, happened at roughly 8:30 PM as both Britney Spears and Victor Wembanyama approached their respective dinner tables separately.
Apparently, Spears is a noted fan of the San Antonio Spurs and of Wembanyama specifically, and intended to approach him to congratulate his recent success as the number 1 NBA draft pick. From there, the details became murky, with initial reports suggesting Wemby’s team engaged in senseless violence to prevent Spears from approaching him.
Original reporting of the incident suggested that Britney Spears had been struck across the face, backhanded, by the NBA star’s security, causing her to fall to the ground and require assistance getting back up.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police will not charge anyone on Wembanyama’s security, or Britney Spears, with a crime.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department even began a criminal investigation into the encounter, causing a host of rumors suggesting Spears and her team would be filing a suit for battery. After thoroughly investigating the initial report, it became clear that the original statement had become exaggerated, as Spears and company continued to their table and ate their meal in peace.
Furthermore, Wembanyama’s security team allegedly approached Britney Spears’ table during her meal to personally apologize for the incident, assuring her that they did not realize who she was, and that they meant no harm.
The security team may have had trouble identifying the former pop singer, as she apparently approached Wemby while speaking in a bizarre fake British accent.
Despite the media frenzy which quickly circulated following the brief altercation, Britney Spears calmly accepted the security staff’s apology and continued her meal, with Victor Wembanyama doing the same elsewhere in the restaurant.
Victor Wembanyama even claimed in a brief interview the following morning that he wasn’t aware the fan who approached him was Britney Spears until after he had adjourned to his hotel room for the evening.
The LVMPD has stated to the press that no citations or arrests will be made in the case and that their investigation has concluded pending the arrival of any new evidence.
