Bill Skarsgard Arrested In Sweden Airport
Actor Bill Skarsgard was recently revealed to have been arrested at the Arlanda Airport in Stockholm. Though the arrest occurred back in October, media outlets have just been given word of the arrest after recently released court documents show that Skarsgard posted payment for a fine that stemmed from the incident. The 33-year-old was charged with marijuana possession.
A Slap On The Wrist
Despite the arrest, Bill Skarsgard doesn’t appear to be in a bad legal position. The Swedish citizen was ordered to pay a fine of 40,000 Swedish krona, the equivalent of nearly $4,000 USD. At his sentencing on Wednesday, Skarsgard paid his fine and will not face any jail time or have to serve any probation for his offense.
Marijuana Is Illegal In Sweden
According to the police report, Bill Skarsgard had in his possession nearly 2.5 grams of marijuana. However Swedish law prohibits the possession, use, and sale of recreational marijuana. The penalties for small amounts of the illicit drug are minor in Sweden, particularly for first-time offenders.
Shot To Fame With 2017’s IT
Bill Skarsgard became a worldwide celebrity after his incredible performance as Pennywise the Clown in the 2017 horror film IT. His terrifying portrayal as the nightmarish monster was reprised in the 2019 sequel, IT Chapter Two. And while Skarsgard was relatively unknown before starring in the film adaptation of the bestselling novel by Stephen King, he already had amassed dozens of film and TV credits in Europe leading up to IT.
A Career Built On The Supernatural
The film Simple Simon gave Bill Skarsgard the opportunity for a breakthrough performance in 2011, earning the actor the Guldbagge Award nomination for Best Actor. In 2012, the European Film Academy honored him with the Shooting Stars Award. This led to Skarsgard getting cast in the 2013 Netflix series Hemlock Grove.
A Prolific Actor
Divergent Series: Allegiant served as the first major American film for Bill Skarsgard, which premiered a year prior to him donning the iconic makeup he wore in IT. Skarsgard has experienced great success after his Pennywise performances, too. He racked up series credits over multiple episodes of Clark and Castle Rock and has been in multiple feature films over the last few years.
One Of John Wick’s Best Villains
As recently as 2023, Bill Skarsgard co-starred in Boy Kills World and John Wick: Chapter 4. On the immediate horizon for the actor are two films that should certainly capture international attention. Skarsgard will be portraying Count Orlock in the upcoming remake of the 1922 German silent horror classic Nosferatu, as well as starring in a soon-to-be-released remake of the 1994 film The Crow.
Teaming With Nic Cage
Bill Skarsgard will also appear as Phillip II of Spain in the upcoming film Emperor and will be starring alongside veteran actor Nicolas Cage in the film Lords of War. The arrest in the fall of 2023 hasn’t slowed down one of Sweden’s favorite actors as he continues to add credit after credit to his already impressive film resume. At only 33, it appears that the demand for the young actor isn’t fleeting, and he’ll be able to move quickly past the legal road bump from his arrest.
