Arnold Schwarzenegger Reveals Near-Death Experience
Arnold Schwarzenegger says he almost died during his third open-heart surgery due to unexpected complications. The valve replacement surgery took place just before the actor was supposed to film 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. He described how doctors explained that the procedure had caused internal bleeding.
“I woke up and all of a sudden the doctors were in front of me saying, ‘I’m so sorry, but it was unlike what we planned,'” Arnold Schwarzenegger said via The Hollywood Reporter. “[They said] we made a mistake and poked through the heart wall and had to open me up very quickly and to save [my] life. I was really freaking out.”
“The bottom line is, you cannot roll the clock back,” Arnold Schwarzenegger continued. “It was a disaster. I was in the middle of a disaster. So now, how do I get out of it? You have to shift gears. You collect yourself, shift gears, and say, ‘OK, what I need to do now is I got to get out of this hospital.'”

Arnold Schwarzenegger explained that the surgery mishap resulted in a complicated recovery process. Further to that point, the FUBAR actor shared some footage of himself walking down a hospital hallway via his YouTube channel, The Pump. The clip shows him moving around with the help of a walker and then just with the assistance of a railing.
“The bottom line is, you cannot roll the clock back,” Arnold Schwarzenegger continued. “It was a disaster. I was in the middle of a disaster. So now, how do I get out of it? You have to shift gears. You collect yourself, shift gears, and say, ‘OK, what I need to do now is I got to get out of this hospital,'” the action star added.
Describing walking the first 10 steps and the progress that followed, Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “I looked like an idiot waddling around the hallway, but the bottom line was the doctor said you have to exercise your lungs because if you get pneumonia, you can die,” he said. “We did it because I had a positive attitude. [Three months later] I started shooting Terminator 6.”
Following his recovery, Arnold Schwarzenegger went on to make his television debut in the Netflix series FUBAR. Despite receiving some harsh reviews from critics, the actor’s devoted fan base loved the project. In the series, Schwarzenegger portrays a CIA operative on the brink of retirement who discovers that his daughter is secretly working in a similar role.
“I woke up and all of a sudden the doctors were in front of me saying, ‘I’m so sorry, but it was unlike what we planned. [They said] we made a mistake and poked through the heart wall and had to open me up very quickly and to save [my] life. I was really freaking out.”

While it may bear similarities to films like True Lies and incorporates several action movie clichés that Arnold Schwarzenegger has tackled over his illustrious four-decade career, it’s precisely these elements that resonated with his fans and turned FUBAR into a massive success. Netflix wasted no time in green-lighting a second season shortly after its May premiere.
However, due to ongoing actors and writers strikes, there’s currently no expected return date for the series. In the interim, Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to appear in the martial arts comedy film Kung Fury 2 alongside David Sandberg, Michael Fassbender, and David Hasselhoff.
Directed by David Sandberg, Kung Fury 2 (featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger) begins in 1985 with Miami enjoying a semblance of safety thanks to the vigilant presence of Kung Fury and his elite law enforcement team known as the Thundercops. This group is made up of a unique assembly of officers plucked from various points in history to combat the evil Kung Führer, Adolf Hitler.
However, when a tragic loss within the Thundercops causes their dissolution, a mysterious adversary emerges from the shadows, aligning with the Führer to aid in their pursuit of the ultimate weapon. In a bid to rescue his comrades, safeguard the esteemed Miami Kung Fu Academy, and vanquish the forces of darkness once and for all, Kung Fury embarks on an epic journey through space and time.

Meanwhile, Arnold Schwarzenegger offered insights into his life and career through a three-part documentary titled Arnold. The project, which premiered on Netflix earlier this year, explores the life and trajectory of Schwarzenegger, tracing his ascent to fame, his accomplishments in the world of bodybuilding, his triumphant acting career, and his foray into the realm of politics.
The show also offers a thorough examination of the 76-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger beyond his iconic movie star image, affording the audience a complete insight into his diverse and multifaceted life.
