Angelina Jolie Is Done With Hollywood And Leaving Los Angeles
In a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Angelina Jolie revealed that she might not have pursued acting if she were starting out in 2023 and that would like to leave Los Angeles permanently in the future and live at her home in Cambodia (via Variety).
The Oscar-winner expressed that the current state of Hollywood, where everything is highly public and your personal details are in the open, isn’t what her experience was like when she first started out in Hollywood. She did say that she would perhaps do stage acting if she were starting out in 2023, but she wouldn’t want a life and career in Hollywood.
Wants A More Private Life Outside Of Hollywood
As for her moving plans, Angelina Jolie went on to explain that she doesn’t have much of a social life in Los Angeles due to the unwanted attention she receives when she leaves the house, saying, “Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place.” Jolie spoke about how the recent unwanted attention was due in part to the increased tabloid pressure following her divorce from Brad Pitt, saying, “It’s part of what happened after my divorce,” and, “I lost the ability to live and travel as freely.” While her divorce from Pitt was seven years ago, Jolie is still subject to constant media attention and it has taken its toll, as Jolie noticed changes in her vocal registers in 2018, saying, “My body reacts very strongly to stress.”
Healing From Her Divorce
Angelina Jolie has previously spoken about the toll of the media attention in the wake of her divorce, telling Vogue in September that she opted to take fewer roles with shorter shoots as she and her family were healing. It makes sense that Jolie would want to find a more peaceful place to live, especially since the media has been following her for most of her life. Add the fact that she takes fewer roles, and she could likely continue her career from another place where she’s more comfortable.
Her Last Movie Was 2021’s The Eternals
Angelina Jolie’s most recent film role was in Marvel’s Eternals in 2021, where she played the Eternal Thena. Although the MCU has no immediate plans to bring the Eternals back, Jolie’s Thena would certainly be a welcome return. While the film had mixed reviews, the cast, and the characters were undoubtedly one of the best aspects of the film.
Behind The Camera For Without Blood
In the meantime, Angelina Jolie has been busy with her latest directorial effort, Without Blood. Jolie directed and adapted the script from the Alessandro Barrico novel of the same name. In addition to being under Jolie’s deft direction, the film has a cast that includes Salma Hayek, Demian Bichir, and Juan Minujin.
Reprising Role In Kung Fu Panda 4
Angelina Jolie will also be reprising one of her best roles when she returns to voice Tigress in the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 4. Along with Jolie, the cast will include Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Seth Rogen, Dustin Hoffman, Awkwafina, and Nikolaos Makris. Kung Fu Panda 4 will continue the adventures of Jack Black’s martial arts panda master, Po, and is expected to hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
