Andy Dick Sentenced To Jail
Andy Dick has been sentenced to 90 days in jail on charges of sexual battery stemming from a 2018 incident
Troubled Star Trek: Voyager actor and controversial comedian Andy Dick is making headlines once again after being sentenced to 90 days in jail. According to the Los Angeles Times, the disgraced star was convicted of sexual battery, which stems from an incident in April 2018 when an Uber driver accused Dick of groping him. The comic will check himself into the Los Angeles County Jail beginning on November 17.
As if spending three months behind bars isn’t bad enough, Andy Dick was also sentenced to 12 months of summary probation upon his release, and he is required to register as a sex offender. In addition, he must complete 52 Alcoholics Anonymous sessions, 52 sexual compulsion anonymous sessions, and 12 mental health counseling sessions. Finally, he is also required to pay restitution to the victim.
Following a two-week trial in June, a jury presented a guilty verdict for one count of misdemeanor sexual battery in the case where Andy Dick was accused of grabbing an Uber driver’s genitals during a ride in West Hollywood nearly four years ago. The comedian’s attorney Daniel Kapelovitz indicated that he intends to appeal the case. In 2019, Dick pleaded not guilty to the charge, and Kapelovitz called the allegations against his client “completely baseless.”
Unfortunately, Andy Dick has a long history of run-ins with the law, and he’s been arrested on several occasions that have resulted in charges such as drug possession and sexual battery. Just last month, the problematic star was arrested by the Santa Barbara Police Department after they responded to a report of a burglary in progress. Authorities caught Dick attempting to steal power tools from a home under construction.
Following his arrest, Andy Dick was charged with first-degree residential burglary by the Santa Barbara County D.A. According to TMZ, a week before he was taken into custody, Dick shared a video from inside a seemingly abandoned home. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s extremely likely the comedian filmed himself inside the same residence where he was caught stealing tools and attempting to flee the property.
Back in May, the 56-year-old comedian was accused of felony sexual battery which allegedly happened on a campground in Orange County, California. Officers responded to reports of a man claiming sexual assault on the campsite located inside O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco. The arrest was live streamed by TMZ, and it shows Andy Dick being removed from a recreational vehicle and taken into custody by police.
One of the comic’s earliest charges came in 1999 after Andy Dick was driving recklessly in Hollywood, and he ended up crashing his vehicle into a utility pole. He faced multiple charges in that incident including drug possession, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and hit-and-run. The same year, he was questioned in the suicide of actor David Strickland, who was discovered hanging from a sheet attached to a ceiling beam.
Even with all his legal troubles over the years, Andy Dick remains active in Hollywood. Unfortunately, he’s been in the news more for allegations of sexual misconduct than he has for his upcoming film and television projects. Although spending 90 days behind bars could push the star to finally get his act together, we’re not going to get our hopes up.
