On Sunday night the Golden Globes had their most trimmed-down, bare-bones ceremony pretty much ever. There were winners announced for the myriad categories, but none of the usual fanfare, and nothing was televised. But while she wasn’t a nominee, Amber Heard apparently had Golden Globes of the past on her mind, and today she posted a picture of herself from the red carpet of the 2016 ceremony, in an utterly stunning red dress.
Amber Heard posted the photo to her Instagram on Monday. The accompanying caption reads “Did someone say Golden Globes throwback…?” Her red gown includes a sheer overlay, and gives her the look of a classic star from the Golden Age of Cinema. Included with the rest of her jewelry at this point is her wedding band, as her divorce from Johnny Depp was still a year away. You can see the photo below.
As reported by the Daily Mail, while Amber Heard wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe — and has yet to be honored with a nomination — she still shared a memorable moment that evening on stage with Blindspot star Jaimie Alexander. Heard and Alexander presented the Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries — which went to Oscar Issac for his role as Yonkers mayor Nick Wasicsko in HBO’s Show Me a Hero — and apparently whoever was working the teleprompter made an error. Alexander got laughs after joking, “Dude, who’s typing this sh-t?”
Professionally speaking, things seem to be getting a little scarce in Amber Heard’s near future. Filming wrapped on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December. Heard will reprise her role of Mera, Atlantis’ queen, opposite Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. In spite of a fierce fan campaign to get Heard removed from the film, producers refused to give her the boot. She also made an unexpected cameo as Mera in early 2021 in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
But after her latest turn as Mera, there doesn’t seem to be a lot going on for Amber Heard professionally. The only future project listed on the actress’ IMDb page is the thriller Run Away with Me, though that in and of itself is a strange addition. IMDb lists the film as being in pre-production, and yet Heard’s casting was announced in February 2018 and she was already filming the following month. By the following February, Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) was reported to be attached to the film, though currently Heard is the only actor listed on IMDb. Heard is supposed to be playing a model who runs afoul the Parisian criminal underworld.
It could be that Amber Heard is taking time off to focus on her daughter. The actress had her daughter Ootang via surrogate in April 2021. The actress actually stirred a little bit of controversy in September when she posted pictures to Instagram of her lifting weights in one hand and Ootang in another. Some fans thought what Heard was doing was dangerous, though the fact that Heard posted the images suggests everything turned out fine.
Amber Heard’s next film will be Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, directed by James Wan from a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who likewise wrote 2018’s Aquaman. Along with Heard, the film will star Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will release in theaters December 16, 2o22.
