Amber Heard Done Acting For Good Following Johnny Depp Trial
A source close to Amber Heard claims the star is done acting, at least for now.
Amber Heard has quit Hollywood and relocated to Spain following the harrowing defamation trial with Johnny Depp. The Aquaman star is living in Madrid with her two-year-old daughter Oonagh. Speaking to the Daily Mail, an unnamed source said the 37-year-old actress is fluent in Spanish and is happy to raise her child “away from all the noise.”
“I don’t think she is in any hurry to return to work or Hollywood, but she will probably come back when the time is right for the right project,” the source told the publication. The embattled actress sold her home in Yucca Valley, California for $1.1 million in July 2022. Amber Heard disappeared from view of the media shortly after.
In October 2022, Amber Heard was spotted on a Majorca beach with her girlfriend, Eve Barlow. At the time, she was reportedly living in a rented house on the island. However, the move seems permanent, as the source revealed the DC alum has a new home in Madrid. Heard has been inactive in the film industry since filming Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. The sequel will be released later this year.
It’s unclear if Amber Heard is still in a relationship with Eve Barlow, who still works as a writer in Los Angeles. Barlow previously hinted at a break-up by posting an essay on Substack where she discussed searching for optimism after a “life-changing year.” She included a passage from Khalil Gibran’s poem about the need to find strength alone.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp was spotted vacationing at his island in the Bahamas with friends. The Pirates of the Caribbean star will perform at a Jeff Beck charity event supporting wildlife charities at the Royal Albert Hall in London on May 22 and 23. He will direct a film about the artist Modigliani and tour with his band, The Hollywood Vampires.
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were involved in a six-week trial over a 2018 op-ed written by the actress about her experience as a victim of domestic violence. The trial ended with the Academy Award nominee Depp being awarded over $10 million in damages after successfully winning all three defamation claims. His ex-wife was awarded $2 million after winning one of her three countersuit claims.
The former couple recently settled on a deal where Amber Heard’s insurance company would pay $1 million to Johnny Depp to bring an end to the case. Depp has stated that he plans to donate the settlement money to charity. Following the agreement, the actress released a statement saying settling the defamation case was a difficult decision.
Amber Heard clarified that she never chose to be in “this situation” and that she defended her truth. However, her life was destroyed as a result. She acknowledged the vilification she faced on social media, which is an amplified version of how women are victimized when they come forward. Now, she can finally free herself from something she wanted to leave for years.
“I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession,” Amber Heard said, adding that there are no restrictions or gags concerning her voice going forward. Finally, she revealed that she lost faith in the American legal system, where her unprotected testimony served as entertainment and social media fodder.
