Amber Heard has traded places with Johnny Depp, as the Aquaman star is currently on the hot seat for the defamation trial. there, she was being questioned by her legal team, especially regarding her role in the DC sequel. Heard’s legal counsel apparently wants to use the same tactic that Depp did, by relating this torrid relationship has significantly affected Heard’s professional life. While on the stand, Heard revealed that she had her role in Aquaman 2 reduced by a huge margin and that she had to “beg” to even be allowed to reprise her role as Mera. According to the actress, “I was given a script and given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that had depicted my character and another character, without giving away any spoilers, the two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They didn’t… They just removed a bunch.”
Amber Heard began this journey of outing her former ex-husband after she all but named him as her abuser in an op-ed piece that she wrote for The Washington Post back in 2018. This led to Depp filing a defamation lawsuit against the actress, as the piece allegedly damaged his career, as previously mentioned. However, the ongoing trial hasn’t painted either of them in the best light, and the public consensus is that she has been lying about this supposed abuse. Things have gone from bad to worse for the actress, as her legal team has suffered many defeats in court while trying to get the case thrown out. Even the director of Aquaman, James Wan, stopped following the actress. Warner Bros has also followed suit. This could mean that Mera is not going to appear in any further DC features moving forward.
The defamation trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp will likely conclude by the end of this month, and whoever loses this trial stands to lose a great deal more than millions of dollars. The damage that both parties have sustained from this trial might be irreparable, and whoever the jury sides with will be able to leave the courtroom claiming that they were the truthful ones all along. If Heard loses, she will pay a sum of $50 million and likely be shunned by a great deal more people than just DC. Depp is being countersued by Heard, and should he lose this trial, he will pay $100 million in damages. Everyone has their opinions on this matter, but it appears as if DC and the rest of the Warner Bros production team aren’t going to back up Heard after Aquaman 2 comes out.
