Adele Leaves Music For Movie Acting?
Adele already has plenty of Grammy wins under her belt, and even an Oscar win for James Bond theme to Skyfall, but could an acting Oscar be the next big win for the singing superstar? According to the Daily Mail, Adele is ready for a bit of a career change after announcing her long hiatus from music. A source told the news outlet that the singer has been taking acting lessons from a top Hollywood coach for over a year.
Already Earned An Oscar
In addition to Adele taking acting lessons, the source said, “When she commits to something she does it 100 percent,” and added that she wants her assistants to start letting people know that she’s interested in getting involved in new movie projects. As mentioned, the multi-talented icon already has some experience with Hollywood, as her incredible song “Skyfall” for the Daniel Craig-led Bond movie of the same name handily earned her an Oscar in 2013. But it would definitely be interesting to see Adele take her talents to the other side of the camera.
Lady Gaga Made The Transition
Adele would hardly be the first pop superstar to pivot to acting, so it’s not hard to imagine she could find an interesting movie project soon. Her fellow pop star, Lady Gaga, has easily slipped into the Hollywood arena, earning an Oscar nomination for her role in A Star is Born. Gaga is also set to star in the upcoming Joker: Folie a Deux as Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
Some Of Hollywood’s Biggest Stars Were Musicians
Other modern pop icons like Halle Bailey and Harry Styles have also become reliable actors in recent years, and, of course, the list of musicians turned actors from history is quite long. Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Beyonce, Ice Cube, Will Smith, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and plenty more have gone from singing to acting, so Adele’s acting career could easily be added to that long list. The only question is, what kind of projects will she take on?
Concerns Over Her Accent
One Hollywood source did apparently advise Adele, who is seeking guidance from industry professionals, that she may need to take acting lessons from a dialect coach as well if she doesn’t want her roles to be limited by her Cockney accent. With that being said, it seems likely that there are at least a few projects out there with roles where she could use her natural accent, especially if those lessons are paying off.
The singer already has experience with theatrical drama thanks to the live stage productions of her arena-sized tours, so she may be more than ready to take on a big movie role.
Is There A Project Already In The Works?
This also isn’t the first time that Adele has strongly hinted at her interest in an acting career, as she previously told The Hollywood Reporter that there is a film out there that she’s desperate to get involved in. But she mentioned that the writer who would handle the script wasn’t “mentally ready” to start writing it. That was back in 2023, so perhaps the writer is ready to take on the project now, which could possibly be Adele’s first big role.
Adele said about the project, “I bug [the writer] every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet,” adding, “But that’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it.” For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Adele’s first movie role ends up being.
