Grammy-Winning Singer Creates Fake Stories About Herself

The tabloids are always full of breathless headlines about the biggest celebs, and far too many of these stories are partially (if not completely) false. Most celebs try to steer away from such fake news, but one Grammy-winning singer decided to strike back at the tabloids by creating her own made-up stories. While performing a 10-show run at a custom venue in Munich, Adele created a phony tabloid named the Saturn Times and had a very fun time creating fake stories about herself to display in this publication for each show.

Coming Up With Her Own Tabloids

The singer was characteristically blunt about her motivation for creating her own gossip paper: “After years of putting up with the tabloids, I decided to join in on the fun and create my own for the Munich shows,” Adele said. While this may have started out as a lark, she later described how “it was a highlight of my week to write and create these every Sunday after the shows.”

Despite all of her success as a musician, she cheekily claimed that “I think I missed my true calling” when it came to creating her fake tabloid.

Just A Little Fun

Lest anyone think Adele was overly spiteful in her motivations here, she was quick to clarify that her efforts were meant to be “a friendly p*ss take on myself and the real ones.” In other words, a way to poke fun at both herself and the real publications that want to throw gossip to their readers as if they were throwing chum out to the sharks.

If anything, the singer’s efforts might have helped her better understand the real tabloid writers out there because, as Adele notes, “it is so much fun writing absolute nonsense!”

Puns And Other Nonsense

But just what kinds of fake headlines was this Grammy winner actually writing about herself? The ones she created often had silly puns, including “It’s One Adele of a Ride!” This is accompanied by a picture of herself riding a bicycle around an empty stadium along with a brief article about the experience.

In some cases, the headlines were very meta, like when she responded to nasty weather that nearly shut down her show with a fake article titled “STORM ADELE.”

Fake Engagements

While these were the stories that poked fun at either Adele or innocuous subjects like the weather, the singer occasionally used the Saturn Times to make fun of real tabloids.

Because there are constant fake stories about her getting engaged to her boyfriend Rich Paul, she responded with a story about herself “sending fans into a meltdown by seemingly announcing she’s engaged for the 100th time this year.”

Still, her primary focus remained gently mocking herself and her shows, like when she wrote about her incredulous reaction to the giant screen installed in the venue setting a Guinness world record due to its size.

Saturn Times

Perhaps modeling the kind of behavior that she’d like to see from real tabloid writers, Adele also used her powers for good by encouraging fans to enjoy her shows almost any way they wanted, including “Standing, sitting, crouching, jumping or even hopping on one leg!”

But she also told audiences to avoid standing on the chairs because they could fall and possibly hurt someone behind them. She also channeled her inner Keanu Reeves from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, reminding everyone of the importance of being excellent (or, in her words, “kind”) to each other so everyone could have a “great time.”

You can no longer see Adele’s amazing fake tabloid in person, and after her upcoming show in Las Vegas on November 23, she has promised that we won’t see her for “an incredibly long time.”

Fortunately, you can still check out her issues of the Saturn Times on her Instagram. And as for her upcoming break from performing, we can only hope that she finds the time to say hello from the other side every now and then.
