Sckylar Gibby-Brown is a Team Editor on GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT. You can usually catch her quoting obscure fantasy movies from the ’80s and ’90s or rewatching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the umpteenth time. In her free time, Sckylar is either out traveling the world or curled up in bed reading a book.

  • Past Title: Producer and Studio Coordinator
  • Current Title: Team Editor @ GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT

How It Started

2001 was a big year for 8-year-old Sckylar. That was the year she read Harry Potter and watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring for the first time. After that, there was no going back—she was fully addicted to reading, writing, and movies.

Sckylar studied writing and filmmaking in college and then worked at a production studio in Arizona for several years while spending her evenings freelance writing for various travel, entertainment, and lifestyle websites. When the chaos of 2020 hit, Sckylar took off from the corporate world and became a full-time entrepreneur.

She then spent the next several years traveling, writing, and even making a few independent films. Amongst her various adventures, she spent several months in New York City and fell in love with the energy. She recently packed up her bags (which had been living an unfulfilling life in a storage unit) and moved her husband and two dogs across the country into a unit in Upper Manhattan.

In 2022, Sckylar began writing for GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT as a Contributing Writer before accepting the position of Team Editor.

How It’s Going

Now, Sckylar focuses on growing GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT’s coverage of entertainment news while spending the evenings writing the manuscript for her first novel and the weekends exploring the East Coast. She also has a travel and mindset blog where she shares tips for travel and personal development.
