Matthew Creith is a film/TV critic and entertainment journalist.
How It Started
Inspired by his dad’s love of movies, Matthew became an avid lover of the entertainment industry at a young age. His first brush with destiny came when he competed as a contestant on Nickelodeon’s Wild & Crazy Kids in the early 1990s. He parlayed that success into competing on the GSN’s game show Lingo and won $5,000 with his friend Tara.
A film buff by design, Matthew’s first job was working the concession stand of a movie theater and handling promotional material for studios, later becoming the Assistant Manager. While working at the theater, he enrolled at California State University Northridge where he earned a B.A. in Media Theory & Criticism. This gave life to his passion for reviewing movies.
His first job in entertainment journalism came in 2014 when he started writing movie reviews for Valley Scene Magazine in Los Angeles, California. He attended several premieres for flicks like Interstellar and interviewed P90X founder Tony Horton.
Matthew moved to Austin, TX in 2017 where he met his now-husband Michael. A lover of SXSW and TIFF, he has covered several film festivals for outlets like Screen Rant, IN Magazine, OUT FRONT Magazine, and his blog MATINEE WITH MATT.
In 2022, Matthew jumped at the chance to join GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT as a contributor and was later promoted to Staff Writer. He is a member of the Critics Choice Association, Hollywood Critics Association, and GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.
How It’s Going
Matthew continues to support the LGBTQ+ community through his involvement in GALECA. He lives outside of Austin, TX, and tries to see movies at the famed Alamo Drafthouse as often as possible.
