James Brizuela is an entertainment writer and editor, who has been working in pop culture writing since 2019. He currently operates as a Games Editor for GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT.
How It Started
James Brizuela spent most of his early days obsessed with music and movies. When he wasn’t attending concerts at the local venue, he would be at home watching everything from horror to action and watching every drama ever made. Obsessed with story and writing his own short stories and scripts, it would take some time before he realized he wanted to take writing seriously.
Unsure of his direction in life, James would spend years working odd jobs in the world of labor after high school, before realizing that he wanted more out of life. He dropped everything and enrolled in Creative Writing classes at his local community college in California at the age of 25. Determined to take things as seriously as he could, he applied for a writing position while still enrolled at community college, getting his first crack at the professional writing world by writing music reviews as a volunteer for a heavy metal publication called Metal Temple.
This first volunteer writing job would lead to a paid opportunity at Comic Book Resources, where James refined his skills and love for covering pop culture. While working full-time at a brewery, and writing as a freelancer, he would eventually get accepted to the University of California, Riverside. There he would secure a B.A. in both Screenwriting and Creative Writing, while achieving Summa Cum Laude honors.
Shortly before graduating in December of 2021, James was hired as a contributing writer for GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT. Through his hard work, he was promoted quickly to a Staff Writer, Team Editor, and currently as Deputy Editor for the gaming section of the website.
How It’s Going
James Brizuela currently serves as the Games Editor for GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT, where he cultivates eye-popping material that covers all levels of the gaming and entertainment industry.
When he’s not creating the great content on GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT, James Brizuela serves as a critic for film festivals, and works on his own screenplays that he hopes to sell to Hollywood in the future.
