Defiance Official Synopsis & Cast Pics Tease Season 2
Syfy has been doubling down on developing new science fiction shows of late, suggesting that the network might finally have pulled its head from without its hindquarters and decided to be something more than a joke again. If that proves to be true, Defiance will have the honor of having been one of the first shows that kicked off that new era, an honest-to-gosh, unapologetic science fiction series on a network that had for a long time seemed eager to escape that label entirely. Next month Defiance will be returning for a second season, and Syfy is eager to get you interested, courtesy of an official synopsis and a ton of new cast pictures.
Defiance wasn’t the home run hit I was hoping it would be when it premiered last year, but part of that is because my expectations are high: this is a show that was co-developed by Rockne O’Bannon, the dude who gave us one of the best science fiction shows in history, Farscape. O’Bannon’s other TV gig, NBC’s Revolution, is about to air its series finale Wednesday night, so hopefully he’ll be able to give Defiance the TLC it needs to become a truly great show.
Here’s the official synopsis for Defiance’s second season:
As the story of Defiance resumes, the lives of the townspeople are in drastic turmoil. The Earth Republic has assumed control of the town, with far-reaching consequences including a new mayor. Nolan (Grant Bowler) traverses the badlands to find a lost Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), Amanda (Julie Benz) has an unexpected new role in the town as she searches for Kenya and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire in the midst of dramatic changes. Joining the cast this season are James Murray as new mayor Niles Pottinger, Anna Hopkins as Earth Republic soldier Jessica ‘Berlin’ Rai and William Atherton as Earth Republic official Viceroy Mercado.
If you skipped Defiance last season and are looking to catch up, you’re in good shape…so long as you’re an Amazon Prime member. Amazon has the entire first season available streaming for Prime members, and with only 13 episodes it should be pretty easy to play catch-up before the show returns on June 19.
