The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 Is Fandango’s Most Anticipated Film Of 2014
While Iron Man 3 was technically the biggest movie of 2013 here in the States, there’s a good chance that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will use its last few weeks in theaters to surpass the superhero movie’s $409 million earnings. As you can imagine, that’s good news for the upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 , good enough in fact that the film has topped Fandango‘s list of the most-anticipated movies of 2014. Star Jennifer Lawrence was chosen as the Sexiest Woman in the Movies for next year, as she’ll also be starring in Brian Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and Susanne Bier’s Serena. Personally, I think a website that deals with selling movie tickets needs to worry more about financial aspects and qualities of performers rather than who their users find “sexy.” But whatever. There’s no denying Lawrence is a looker.
Catching Fire became Fandango’s best-selling movie of all time, so it’s no surprise that the thousands of people surveyed on their website would choose Mockingjay as the most exciting upcoming film. The next few choices aren’t that surprising either, as the Suzanne Collins adaptation is followed by Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: There and Back Again, Days of Future Past and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The oddball of the bunch is Neil Burger’s Divergent taking the number-five slot, which further implies that this survey was probably filled out by mostly younger moviegoers. If I lined up all the movies I want to see in a row, I could throw a rock as hard as possible and still not come anywhere near Divergent‘s place at the bottom of that list.
While Lawrence straddles the top of the sexy list, the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending makes a couple of appearances there. Mila Kunis, who will also star in Phil Allen Robinson’s The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, is right behind Lawrence in the number-two slot. And while Ryan Gosling takes the honor for the Sexiest Man for 2014, Jupiter‘s Channing Tatum is right behind him.
Sci-fi gets more recognition from this survey as well. For the gender-based “Biggest Breakout” of the year, RoboCop‘s Joel Kinnaman makes the number-two spot just under Need for Speed‘s Aaron Paul, while Divergent‘s Theo James hits the third spot. On the female side, Nicola Peltz is ranked fourth for her upcoming role in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction. And the fifth-most-anticipated family film of the year is somehow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
