Orphan Black Season Two Gets Another Cryptic New Teaser
Over the course of its first season, BBC America’s Orphan Black evolved from a series with a cool premise and a strong lead, to one of the most inventive sci-fi shows we’ve seen in some time, with an actress capable of seamlessly pulling off multiple distinct characters within the same scene. It quickly became one of the shows that we had to watch week after week. Not only is the action compelling and the characters fantastic, but star Tatiana Maslany is mind-blowing as she portrays numerous clones without missing a beat. Basically the first 13 episodes set the bar very, very high. Season one came seemingly out of nowhere, but season two now has some elevated expectations attached to it, and this new teaser hopes to capitalize on that.
Like the previous looks we’ve seen, this latest teaser from EW doesn’t tell us much about what the actual plot of season two will look like. More about cryptic, ominous tone, it seeks to set and capture the mood of the new season. It does, however, hint that the new episodes will present a broader view of the overall world of Orphan Black.
After witnessing the suicide of a woman who looks just like her, Sarah Manning (Maslany), a small time con woman, and orphan, looking to disappear, assumes the stranger’s identity. Not only does she discover that her new alter ego is a cop—an awkward enough situation for someone in her line of work—she’s one of multiple identical clones, part of an expansive international conspiracy, the depths of which are barely touched in season one. To paraphrase this teaser, Sarah is just one piece of a puzzle that she can barely comprehend. If this is any indication, season two of Orphan Black will explore the sprawling nature of the cover up and maybe we’ll see just how far this whole thing goes.
This teaser will air on Christmas day during the Doctor Who holiday special, The Time of the Doctor, though you lucky folks get to witness it a few days early. The last promo aired during the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor.
Orphan Black doesn’t return until April 19, 2014. The show stars Jordan Gavaris, Dylan Bruce, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Kevin Hanchard, Michael Mando, and like a dozen incarnations of Tatiana Maslany.
