Violent R-Rated Survival Horror Disney Wishes Didn’t Exist Is Free To Stream

If you’re a fan of gut-wrenching survival horrors, you’ll definitely want to check out Frozen, a graphic R-rated film currently streaming for free on Freevee via Amazon Prime Video. If you’re confused right now, it’s probably because you’re thinking of Frozen, the 2013 children’s animated musical from Disney. Hilariously, the very upbeat fantasy adventure film that spawned the chart-topping track “Let It Go” shares its name with another Frozen from 2010, which has surely led to a host of humorous misunderstandings.

The Other Frozen

For those of you who have never heard of Frozen (2010) before, the film centers on a pair of best friends named Joe Lynch and Dan Walker, who go on a remote skiing trip alongside Dan’s girlfriend Parker. After a long day of shredding up snow together, the trio attempts to go back up the mountain one last time and even convince the ski lift operator to send them up after regular business hours. Unfortunately, due to an internal oversight, the lift stops at its highest point, leaving the trio stranded hundreds of feet above the ground.

As the group braves the elements and searches for a cell phone signal, they ultimately realize that they’ll be left to freeze to death if they remain on the lift overnight. To make matters worse, a brutal snowstorm blows through, sending their chair swinging wildly.

As the plot of Frozen (2010) continues, the gang weighs their options, which include leaping to the ground and breaking their legs, grabbing onto the freezing cold chairlift cable to monkey-bar their way back, or toughing out the ice needles that bombard them in the wee hours of the morning.

The Frozen Battle

Elsa from Disney’s Frozen

Needless to say, Frozen (2010) is a fairly brutal watch, and bears very little resemblance to the Disney film which shares its name. In all fairness, the horror thriller did come first, meaning execs at the House of Mouse should have done their due diligence before naming their 2013 outing.

Though it didn’t rake in the hundreds of millions of dollars made by the Disney film, Frozen (2010) did manage to make a pretty penny at the box office, with a return of $3.8 million against its shoestring budget. Critics gave Frozen a relatively warm reception as well, resulting in a decent 63 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Indie filmmaker Adam Green serves as the screenwriter and director on Frozen (2010), while Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers, and Emma Bell lead the cast as the trio of skiers. Bell’s performance is particularly memorable, and not just because the film is her first credited screen acting appearance. Emma Bell even reprises her role as Parker in Green’s 2010 slasher film Hatchet 2, as something of an Easter egg to fans of Green’s work.

REVIEW SCORE

Personally, I think Frozen (2010) is a fun watch, though it’s definitely not for everyone. If you’re squeamish about heights, extreme temperatures, or the concept of a ferris wheel locking up while you’re at the top, this film will definitely make you nauseous. Luckily, Frozen is currently streaming for free on Freevee via Amazon Prime Video, meaning there’s really nothing to lose by checking it out today.
