The Best Community Guest Star Returning For The Movie?
Throughout its six-season run, Community had plenty of great cameos, from Betty White to John Goodman and even LeVar Burton. Ever since the movie was announced, fans of the beloved sitcom have speculated on who might show up once again for the film. Now we know that there’s hope that Star Trek’s LeVar Burton will appear once again as himself, or at least, we know that he’s willing to.
LeVar Burton Discusses The Community Movie
TV Line asked the 67-year-old actor if he would make an appearance in Community: The Movie during a promotion for his upcoming game show, Trivial Pursuit. Not denying or confirming anything, LeVar Burton replied, “Ask Dan Harmon.” While we can’t get overly excited about this vague response, it sure sounds like Burton would be willing to return to Greendale once more if the series creator would have him.
LeVar Burton popped up in Community a few times, his first being in the Season 2 episode, “Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking.” In the episode, a dying Pierce bequeaths his study group friends with various gifts. For Troy, the wealthy CEO gifts his friend a real-life meet-up with his favorite celebrity, LeVar Burton.
Starstruck and completely unprepared, Troy ruins the encounter by hiding in a bathroom and crying out the theme song of LeVar Burton’s popular ‘80s show, Reading Rainbow. Three seasons later, Troy gets another chance when Pierce once again gifts his friend with the opportunity of a lifetime.
After Pierce finally dies (for real this time), the study group is given various items from his estate. This time around, Troy is offered all of Pierce’s shares in Hawthorne Wipes on the condition that he sails around the world first. In Troy’s final Season 5 episode of Community, he accepts the task and says his goodbyes before boarding the Childish Tycoon, where he learns he will sail around the world with LeVar Burton.
What Happened To Troy And LeVar?
One of the most exciting possibilities about LeVar Burton’s potential return in the Community movie is that it means we could finally get an answer to one of the series’ biggest mysteries. After Donald Glover’s Troy left Greendale, we only ever received one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it update about the character on his globe-trotting journey.
A background news report revealed that pirates had captured Troy and LeVar Burton, but nothing else ever came of this bizarre story in the show. During the TV Line interview, the Star Trek actor even touched on this a bit, saying “They’re on the Childish, as are the pirates, so… we may need an update.”
The Community Movie
Hopefully, we get that update and a surprise cameo from LeVar Burton when the Community movie comes out. Fans of #sixseasonsandamovie had their hopes and dreams confirmed back in 2022 when Peacock officially announced the film was happening.
As of now, the majority of the main cast is all set to return, and filming is expected to begin in 2025. Other than the main cast, no other actors are signed on to appear, but we’re certain to see at least some familiar faces, and hopefully, one of them is LeVar Burton’s.
