The Best Modern Horror Film Lands A Sequel
Get ready to laugh and scream at some wonderfully good news. After five years of rumors, hopes, and dreams, Ready or Not 2 is officially in the works. The exciting announcement was made last week during a screening of the original 2019 movie Ready or Not, which Searchlight Pictures held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. As of right now, no specific plot details or further information surrounding the start of production has been announced.
Samara Weaving Is Returning
That being said, we do know that Samara Weaving (Scream VI) will return to the fold for the sequel, reprising her role as the first film’s final girl. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella – known collectively as Radio Silence – will once again back the feature, with Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy penning Ready or Not 2’s script.
Hide And Seek And Kill
For a brief refresher, the original movie followed Samara Weaving’s Grace, a woman devotedly in love with her fiance, Alex Le Domas, with whom she gets married at the beginning of the movie. Grace thinks she’s finally found the perfect big, tight, happy family that she’s always wanted, but her dreams turn into shrieks and nightmares on the wedding night when she becomes the target of the family’s ritualistic sacrifice. By the time the dust settles, the bodies explode, and the sun rises, Grace is the only surviving person to leave the Le Domas mansion and walk into Ready or Not 2.
Probably Not Returning For The Sequel
The first film also featured the talents of Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), Andie MacDowell (Ground Day), Mark O’Brien (The Righteous), and Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible). And, while there’s always a chance that anyone could pop up in a flashback sequence, the likelihood of any of these names appearing in Ready or Not 2 is pretty slim, considering the original film’s brutal ending.
The Story Can Go In Many Directions
With all this taken into account, while we may not know the plot or the supporting cast, Samara Weaving’s confirmation as the main character in Ready or Not 2 means we’ll be following the next chapter of Grace’s story. With this info, things could go in a myriad of different directions, whether it be angry members of the extended Le Domas family out for revenge or maybe Grace finds herself in another life-or-death situation with a romantic partner. Whatever unfolds, we’re certain to be in for a treat.
Radio Silence Returns To Direct
One thing we can absolutely count on is that Radio Silence will effortlessly weave hysterical comedy into a well-penned and helmed horror flick with Ready or Not 2. The frequent collaborators haven’t just kicked off the blossoming horror-comedy franchise but were also the team behind the fifth and sixth installments in the Scream film series and also brought audiences the wildly fun, blood-soaked, star-studded vampire feature, Abigail.
Samara Weaving Is Making A Name For Herself In Hollywood
As of right now, Tyler Gillett, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Chad Villella don’t have any other irons in the fire, so we’re hoping that the trio will pour their all into Ready or Not 2. On the contrary, Samara Weaving has several projects lined up, including a comedy thriller titled Borderline, a heist thriller titled Eenie Meanie, and a romantic crime thriller titled Carolina Caroline.
