Beloved Marvel Character Is Gobbling Up The Competition On Netflix

By Britta DeVore | Published

We are very close to the arrival of the third and final installment of Sony’s Venom franchise and now audiences can catch up on the film that came before it, as Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently available on Netflix. There’s no better way to get caught up for Venom: The Last Dance than by streaming the Tom Hardy-led 2021 feature that first expanded on the story of the human and his symbiote bestie.

For starters, the plot of Venom: Let There Be Carnage was teased at the end of the original movie in a short but sweet scene that sees Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock roll up to a prison to interview serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson). As the Venom sequel plays out, Netflix audiences will watch as Cletus becomes the shell for a spawned symbiote of Venom named Carnage. As the title teases, the movie is filled with action-packed scenes as Cletus furiously strikes out against those who wronged him in his past.

Returning for another round of madness alongside Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Netflix subscribers who tune in for the feature will also see the familiar faces of Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine), Naomie Harris (Skyfall), and more. The movie was helmed by Andy Serkis, who marked his third foray into filmmaking with the project.

A Box Office Hit

Like so many other titles to arrive early on in the decade, the Venom sequel faced plenty of delays thanks to the ongoing struggles plaguing the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. The production was initially set for an arrival in October 2020, but it was eventually dropped a year later in the fall of 2021. Despite the hold-up, the movie was a gargantuan success at the global box office, raking in an impressive $506.9 million against its $110 million budget, meaning that it’s fully understandable why Venom: Let There Be Carnage is climbing up the Netflix Top 10 chart.

Venom 3 Releasing Soon

As is usually the case, one giant success deserves a follow-up, and that’s likely why Venom: The Last Dance was finally revealed to be underway in 2022. Although Venom fans will need to wait a while before the third and final installment arrives on Netflix, cinemagoers can expect to see it crash into a theater near you on October 25. The plot follows Eddie and Venom who are on the run from pursuers from both of their respective homes.

Just like the titles to come before it, Venom: The Last Dance features a star-studded cast that, along with Tom Hardy, includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), and Rhys Ifans (House of the Dragon). Oftentimes, the Venom movies first arrive on Disney+ before being outsourced to other streamers so, those waiting for a Netflix release will undoubtedly be holding their breath for quite a while.
