SNL Legend Banned From The Show?
While it’s easy to debate whether the show has lost a step (or two, or three), Saturday Night Live remains one of the most venerable comedy shows in television history. Part of the show’s charm is that former cast members often come back to host episodes, adding a fun sense of continuity for audiences to enjoy. However, fans shouldn’t expect popular performer Pete Davidson to return anytime soon: the former cast member has an ongoing beef with SNL star Colin Jost, and now that Lorne Michaels and other execs know about it, an insider claims Davidson won’t be invited back to host for the foreseeable future.
Pete Davidson Banned Because Of Colin Jost?
After becoming more popular as an actor and comedian, Pete Davidson stopped performing for SNL full-time back in 2022. It didn’t take fans very long to see him again, though: the popular comedian hosted the premiere of the show in 2023 and was going to host again on May 6, 2024, before the writer’s strike sent the show on hiatus. According to an insider familiar with matters, Davidson and Colin Jost had a previous falling out over an unknown matter, and “it’s not looking likely that the comedian will be invited back anytime soon.”
Varying Reports On The Feud
The show has already pushed back against this Pete Davidson bombshell, with an SNL representative claiming that there is “no truth” to this particular rumor. The insider, however, maintains that Davidson and Jost have an epic feud going because “something big happened” and Jost now allegedly refuses to be “in the same building, let alone the same room as Pete.” This insider maintains that Jost wants no association with Davidson; another insider, however, claims the two are simply “busy” and “don’t talk as much as they used to.”
Used To Be Friends
Given these conflicting accounts about Pete Davidson’s possibly nonexistent beef with Colin Jost, it’s hard to divine the truth about what happened (if anything) between the two SNL stars. Once upon a time, the two were tight enough to get financially involved in a fairly insane business venture.
Pooling their money, the two plopped down $280,000 at an auction to purchase an old Staten Island ferry that (in conjunction with architect Ron Castellano and comedy club proprietor Paul Italia) they hoped to turn into a successful hotel, entertainment venue, or other venture that leads to big bucks for all involved.
Jost has previously been very candid about the purchase, declaring that it was “absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I’ve ever made in my life.” It may yet pay off, though, as this Ferry recently hosted its premiere event as an entertainment venue during New York Fashion Week. However, Pete Davidson missed that event altogether, furthering rumors that he is continuing to feud with Jost.
Struggled After Leaving SNL
Regardless of the truth regarding their feud, it seems clear that Pete Davidson has been struggling a bit since leaving SNL. He checked himself into rehab back in July, which is when another insider claimed the star had mostly abandoned his close friends and, in turn, been abandoned by some of his once-cozy Hollywood colleagues. That insider further claimed that, before rehab, Davidson had been missing work meetings and that his absences had led to the cancellation of at least one project.
We Hope They Make Up
As for Saturday Night Live fans, they are mostly caught in the middle, with everyone wanting the best for their favorite stars. Should the feud between Pete Davidson and Colin Jost be real, we can only hope that these modern SNL legends can smash that beef and enjoy a fruitful friendship and business partnership. Otherwise, that ferry may become a bittersweet symbol of something special they once shared that may (unlike the boat itself) never be restored.
