Josh Brolin Turned Down Another Superhero Role
After playing not one but two characters for Marvel, there was a point in time when Josh Brolin was considering crossing the line and returning to work with the rival superhero universe of DC, whom he partnered with for 2010’s Jonah Hex. The actor, who appeared as Thanos in a multitude of MCU flicks and Cable in Deadpool 2, was on track to appear as the titular character in HBO’s Green Lantern series. Although things didn’t work out between the studio and the actor, there are no hard feelings on either side with Brolin recently speaking about his experience as almost-Green Lantern.
Josh Brolin Turns Down Green Lantern Role
The performer notes that even though things didn’t fully pan out with Green Lanter, he was “okay” with it, adding that he was thrilled for Kyle Chandler to pick up the moniker. “It’s working out,” Josh Brolin said, “Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.” Does this mean that a Jonah Hex reboot or sequel could be on the way in place of Brolin’s Green Lantern?
Returning To Jonah Hex?
Keeping an optimistic outlook, it sounds like Josh Brolin is leaving the door open for future collaborations with DC. With such a lengthy career in the industry, it certainly doesn’t come as a shock that he would have such a laid-back attitude about the entire situation. Plus, it isn’t like he’s exactly hurting for work.
Josh Brolin Has A Busy Schedule
Over the last year, Josh Brolin reunited with his Dune family in the Denis Villeneuve-helmed sequel, Dune: Part Two, reprising his role as Gurney Halleck. And, as if one blockbuster wasn’t enough, the actor has yet another movie coming out before the end of 2024. Titled Brothers, the action comedy feature sees Brolin star opposite Peter Dinklage in a movie that centers on a pair of twin ex-con brothers on a cross-country road trip to get the cash haul of a lifetime.
Then, next year, Josh Brolin joins a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, and more in the third installment of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise. While we know it’s slated for a Netflix release in 2025, details surrounding Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery haven’t been released at this time.
Can Easily Land More Superhero Appearances
Finally (for now) Josh Brolin will be trading in the action for a bit of horror in Zach Cregger’s latest genre flick, Weapons. Best known for his work behind the spine-chilling Barbarian, Cregger has again assembled a stacked cast that, along with Brolin, includes Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, and more.
So, essentially, while he missed out on his chance to play Green Lantern for DC this time around, Josh Brolin has plenty on his plate to keep him busy. And again – maybe the studio is simply saving him for another shot at Jonah Hex.
We’d Love To See Cable Again
As far as his work in superhero projects is concerned, it would seem that Josh Brolin is taking a beat, something we can’t blame him for after his multiple turns with Marvel. And, although Thanos is dead and Cable didn’t reappear in Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s always a chance that either character could pop up down the line again or that the actor could take on another role entirely. With Robert Downey Jr. back in the saddle as Doctor Doom, anything is possible.
