Diddy Gets Surprising Support From A Controversial Celebrity
Sean “Diddy” Combs might have a growing list of detractors, but legendary boxer Mike Tyson seems to be in the disgraced hip-hop mogul’s corner. The former Heavyweight Champion stated in an interview published on October 11 that he wants “all the best” for his friend and seemed to be surprised that his name was being associated with the jailed CEO of Bad Boy Records.
The two men have a long-standing friendship that is beginning to get a bit of media attention since the September arrest of Combs.
Diddy And Mike Tyson
Diddy and Mike Tyson have known each other as far back as at least the late 1990s, when there was footage captured of the two celebrities joking around with each other on a video. “I just know him for a long time,” Tyson stated on a podcast.
The boxer mentioned that he knew a young Combs “before he was Diddy,” and that the two were acquainted when Tyson “first became Champ” in 1987.
Not The First Time Mike Tyson Mentioned Diddy
Tyson did not address whether Diddy is guilty of any of the three federal charges he’s facing in federal court. But he did talk about being quite social with Combs and hosting the jailed musician/producer at various after-parties.
The Daily Mail interview published Friday wasn’t the first time Mike Tyson mentioned Diddy in recent years. On a different podcast last year, the boxer talked about their long friendship and referred to Combs as Sugar Diddy.
Diddy Needs All The Support He Can Get
Diddy might well need all of the support that he can muster as he sits in a protective wing of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
The judge has repeatedly rejected Mike Tyson’s friend for bond. The judge agrees with the federal prosecution’s assertions that the mega-rich Combs poses both a flight risk and a person who has the financial means to influence the outcome of the court proceedings if he is freed before trial.
No Trial Date For Diddy
To date, no trial date has been set for Diddy. As Mike Tyson and a handful of others close to Combs publicly send their well wishes, the defense team is pushing for a trial in April or May 2025. The prosecution has not filed a preferential date range for the proceedings.
Diddy was arrested on September 19, six months after the Department of Homeland Security raided two of his homes and left with multiple items. The raid was on the heels of a civil suit settlement brought against Combs from ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The suit alleged multiple instances of physical and sexual abuse and may well have culminated a series of events that led to federal authorities filing criminal charges against him.
Facing Massive Jail Time
If convicted, Diddy faces up to a life sentence in prison with a 15-year minimum behind bars. His old pal Mike Tyson is no stranger to prison cells, having served three years of a six-year sentence after being convicted of rape in an Indiana courtroom. He was released in 1995.
