Netflix Hit Action-Thriller Announces Season 3 Months Before Season 2 Arrives
The Night Agent has been renewed for a third season, which is only surprising news because the second season hasn’t premiered yet. The action thriller took Netflix by storm with its debut, but it’s still surprising that the streaming platform has renewed it so far in advance. It’s a move that shows the streamer has confidence in the breakout show.
The Night Agent
An action-thriller based on a Matthew Quirk novel The Night Agent is about a low-ranking FBI agent who uncovers a vast conspiracy. Trying to root out a traitor within the American government, he rushes to prevent a plot against the President of the United States. That mission finds him working with and protecting a tech CEO named Rose Larson.
Second Season Delayed
The Night Agent’s first season was released on May 23rd, 2023, and was renewed for a follow-up season within a week.
However, due to the WGA strike, production didn’t start on season 2 until February of 2024, with filming wrapping in July. Season 2 was pushed back to Winter of 2025, an announcement that came alongside the season 3 renewal news.
Gabriel Basso Is Agent Peter Sutherland
First looks and some plot details about the second season of The Night Agent have been released, but fans have been left mostly in the dark.
Season 2 will follow Agent Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, on an international mission as an official member of the Night Action spy group.
The first look photos confirmed the return of Luciane Buchanan as Rose and showed off new cast member Amanda Warren as Catherine Weaver.
The Night Agent Season 3
Despite the delayed season 2, The Night Agent has already been renewed, which should give the showrunners much more runway for the third season.
That’s a notable difference from season 2, which was tasked with shooting in both Thailand and New York on a tight schedule. With a bit more breathing room, the third season can take its time and enjoy a normal production schedule.
Season 3 of The Night Agent already has some information available, as its shooting locations are already known. Like season 2, it will be split between a US location and an international shoot, this time Istanbul and New York City.
The fact that shooting locations have been set also indicates that the writing process is well underway, which is good news for fans who don’t want another long delay between seasons.
A Massive Hit For Netflix
Netflix placing so much trust in the show is a testament to how astonishingly successful the first season of The Night Agent was.
It was an immediate hit on the platform, reaching 98.2 million views in around three months. The show broke into Nerflix’s top 10 series for all-time views, and its premiere was the third most successful in the platform’s history.
The Night Agent was a surprise hit for Netflix and it’s clear the streamer is betting on its continued success. With a year-long delay between seasons, it will be interesting to see if the show loses any of its momentum. Of course for fans, the show having a third season already in the works is great news.
