Yellowstone Star Got Into A Fist Fight With Series Creator
If faced with the question, “Who is Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan most likely to fight on the show?” you’d likely guess Kevin Costner due to their rumored beef over Costner’s exit. So it might shock you to learn that Taylor Sheridan did, in fact, get into a brawl with one of the hit drama’s stars – just not the Dutton patriarch. According to Cole Hauser, aka Rip Wheeler, the two once scrapped, but it’s now considered water under the bridge.
Cole Hauser And Taylor Sheridan Duke It Out
It’s not unusual to watch an episode of Yellowstone and find Cole Hauser’s Rip throwing a few punches at someone who threatens the Dutton family or its ranch. But knowing that the Dazed and Confused star came to blows with the series creator is another thing. Hauser made this revelation during an interview with Men’s Journal when asked if he had ever been in a bar fight.
“I’ve probably been in one [fight] on every continent. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fighting. Sometimes I’m just tired of words, so let’s beat the sh** out of each other. Maybe at the end of it you’ll buy me a Guinness and I’ll buy you a Bushmills, and we’ll be done. It’s kind of what guys do.”
Couldn’t Have Been Over Anything Serious
The Yellowstone star didn’t reveal any details regarding what led to the brawl (or who emerged victorious), but Sheridan used the experience to the series’ advantage. The series creator said he has a way of using elements from Hauser’s upbringing to produce emotional reactions from him on camera.
Much like Rip Wheeler would be willing to buy his opponent a beer after it’s all said and done, the fight with Taylor Sheridan couldn’t have been about anything too serious. Appearing on the Ryen Russillo podcast in 2020, Hauser called the pair “really close friends.”
But like many hot and cold relationships, the happy feelings didn’t last too long.
Fight Over Coffee
In November 2023, Taylor Sheridan brought a lawsuit against Cole Hauser’s coffee brand. Hauser’s Free Rein Coffee Co was accused of copying Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Coffee brand, specifically calling out the cowboy brand mark as being too similar. But once again, the two seemed to mend fences behind the scenes: just one month after the filing, Sheridan’s team voluntarily dropped the lawsuit.
Cole Hauser Continuing With The Franchise?
Even though Yellowstone is set to come to an end once the final episodes of Season 5 premiere sometime in 2025, Cole Hauser and Taylor Sheridan must remain on good terms at this point in time if the rumors of Rip’s story continuing are true.
Over the summer, Deadline reported that negotiations were underway that could possibly see Yellowstone’s Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly return for a sixth season. Nothing has been confirmed, but even if that rumor proves to be false, Hauser could remain a staple in the Western franchise in one way or another.
The Spinoffs
Sheridan plans to continue the Yellowstone franchise in other capacities. Paramount has confirmed at least two more spinoff series, the first being a direct sequel with a working title of 2024.
2024 will tell the story of the Dutton family’s legacy following the Yellowstone series finale. The series will feature a brand new cast, but unnamed existing characters will also be part of the show. The other planned series is The Madison, which will star Michelle Pfeiffer.
