Agatha All Along Song Casts A Spell On Billboard Charts

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

Agatha All Along hit Disney+ with plenty of fan expectation…after all, it’s the first television follow-up to the hit series WandaVision, and it premiered in the shadow of the very successful feature film Deadpool & Wolverine. In short, many were looking to this show’s success or failure as a way of gauging whether Marvel was making a comeback or not. Now, it seems the show has been a major success in the most deliciously unexpected way: the impossibly catchy song “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road (Sacred Chant)” from Agatha All Along is officially a Billboard hit, entering the Digital Song Sales chart at 22.

Down The Witches Road Is A Billboard Hit

In addition to this Agatha All Along song being a Billboard success, it has also driven sales among fans of this quirky new Marvel show. From September 20-26, the song had over 2,000 downloads, making it a major hit for Marvel/Hollywood Records. Now, the song entering the Billboard charts on October 5 serves as proof of what a downright magical earworm it really is.

Important To The Narrative

As Agatha All Along fans can tell you, this song is more than a Billboard hit…it also plays a central part in the show’s ongoing narrative. It describes the Witches’ Road, a perilous path that magic users can take that could very easily claim their lives. Should they survive the experience, though, they can get whatever it is they most desire, making the road a tempting travel destination for Agatha Harkness and her bevy of unwilling witchy sidekicks.

Agatha herself has a pretty solid reason for traveling this dangerous road: power. She managed to lose her own hex appeal after a teen character helped her escape an annoying distortion spell. Unfortunately, this left her without her trademark powers, and she’s willing to risk anything (and perhaps anyone) on this road if it means getting her magical mojo back.

This Is Agatha’s 2nd Billboard Hit

Agatha marvel

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time that Agatha All Along actor Kathryn Hahn has hit the Billboard charts. Back in 2021, the “Agatha All Along” song from WandaVision landed number 36 on the Billboard charts for Digital Song Sales. Hahn helped sing that song as well as “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” meaning that her time with Marvel has made her into an unexpectedly successful musician.

Patti LuPone

While those two songs are the only ones on the chart for Hahn, that’s not the case for one of her Agatha All Along costars, who is no stranger to Billboard success. She is joined in this cast by Broadway icon Patti LuPone, who has been on the charts multiple times. Before “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” the last time LuPone was for “Let Us Adore You,” a song recorded with members of the Steven Universe cast.

Worth The Watch

Of course, this Agatha All Along song finding Billboard success doesn’t magically make the show great, and many Marvel fans are withholding their final verdict until they see where this particular road leads. Along the way, though, seeing actors like Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza bouncing off each other has made this show worth the price of admission (in this case, a Disney+ subscription).

And if this is the future of the MCU–complete with great actors, bonkers stories, and catchy music–then we’re officially ready to keep traveling this road, all the way to the end of the line.
