Star Trek Getting A Theme Park Attraction

Fortunately for fans, that is all about to change, and those with deep pockets can travel far to experience “the human adventure” in a luxuriously new way. Nickelodeon Land is opening The Land of Legends in Antalya, Turkey, which will include a Trek ride as well as themed hotel rooms fit for even the most dignified Starfleet ambassador.

It’s only (ahem) logical to give the bad news first, so here goes: right now, we know very few details about this attraction aside from its tentative name (Star Trek: Wild Galaxy 5D), its theme park location (Antalya, Turkey), and its specific series theme (Star Trek: Prodigy).

Oh, and we know that the Nickelodeon resort will have some themed rooms for this franchise’s biggest fans (more on this soon). Right now, though, the biggest fans are putting their heads together and trying to figure out what this “5D” ride will be like.

Well before the announcement that Star Trek would be getting its own attraction, theme parks marketed “4D” attractions as ones that blended practical elements with things that might happen onscreen or on a ride.

For example, Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney World has a sequence where a character in a 3D short film shoots water toward the viewer as real water squirts on the audience.

It’s not clear how this Trek ride will institute a fifth dimension (time travel, perhaps?), but you can probably expect, at minimum, a Star Tours-style 3D screen and 4D motion seating to simulate a ship tumultuously moving through space.

While we still have more questions than answers, we can’t help but think that Star Trek is the perfect franchise for this kind of theme park ride.

The franchise is all about exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations through the vicarious viewscreens of characters like Kirk and Picard.

Some 4D rides are a bit disappointing because of the “sit and watch” nature of their design, but genre staples like 3D glasses can help perfectly replicate everything Prodigy fans have come to expect, from the Diviner’s attacking ships to sarcastic holograms.

The sky’s the limit (as a certain TNG captain might say) for this Star Trek theme park ride, but if we’re being honest, we’re way more hyped about the themed hotel rooms.

The Nickelodeon Land resort will be offering rooms that are designed to look like Starfleet living quarters (unless you spring for the “Star Trek Iconic Suite” designed to look like a captain’s ready room).

For those of us who have spent our entire lives wanting to step inside this fictional world, such a killer hotel room may be worth the price of admission all on its own. 

It’s honestly great that Star Trek is going to become part of a theme park, and it’s even better that the ride will be based on Prodigy.

This cartoon was abandoned by Paramount and found new life on Netflix, and the fandom is still eagerly awaiting news on whether the show will get a third season.

The show has been a bright point in the NuTrek era of grimdark programming (looking at you, Picard), and we can’t wait to take our own Away Team to experience this 5D ride before beaming back to our Starfleet-approved hotel room.
