Alan Tudyk Joins Superman In Secret Role

By Britta DeVore | Published

We’ve long known that the cast for James Gunn’s Superman is going to be a stacked one. But now word is beginning to circulate that yet another A-list name and frequent collaborator of Gunn’s, Alan Tudyk, is set to appear in Superman. The only hangup? We don’t know who the Resident Alien star will be playing.

Alan Tudyk Joins Superman’s Stacked Cast

With so many folks already lining the call sheet, it’s hard to even place so much as a guess on who Alan Tudyk will play in Superman. We’ve long known that the main lineup will include David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent aka Superman, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, Nicholas Hoult (The Menu) as Lex Luthor, with plenty more where that came from.

The addition of Alan Tudyk to James Gunn’s Superman also calls into question the possibility of perhaps even more folks joining the production who weren’t part of the initial rollout. The filmmaker is known for bringing his frequent collaborators on board time and time again, as is evidenced by Tudyk and Fillion’s involvement. So, by the time the first trailer drops and that promo train leaves the station, who knows what other familiar faces from the Gunn universe will take part in the movie?

James Gunn’s Superman

While we may not know who Alan Tudyk will be playing in Superman, we – at the very least – have a decent idea about how the plot will shape up. James Gunn has been very clear that his big-screen addition to the beloved hero’s canon will not focus on an origin story as so many others that have come before it did.

Instead, the director will presume that audiences already have a decent handle on Superman’s backstory, allowing him to focus on the character’s struggle to merge his Kryptonian identity with that of his life on Earth.

The New DCU

The movie marks the first feature-length in the DC Universe that Gunn has helmed since taking over the reins at DC Studios with his partner, Peter Safran, two years ago. With plenty of other projects already on the calendar, it will be followed by Craig Gillespie’s 2026 feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Meanwhile, Gunn is also busy on a small-screen production which will also feature a performance from Alan Tudyk before the arrival of Superman.

Alan Tudyk In Creature Commandos

Titled Creature Commandos, the animated series that features the vocal talents of Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus will arrive on Max several months before Superman on December 5. The series, which will pick up following the debut season of the John Cena-led hit, Peacemaker, will focus on the titular gang of misfits who have been assembled by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Along with Tudyk, the show’s other voice actors will include David Harbour (Stranger Things), Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty), Maria Bakalova (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls), and more.

We’re now less than one year until James Gunn’s first feature-length production as the co-leader of DC Studios flies into a cinema near you. With this in mind, as well as knowing that filming is a wrap, it’s only a matter of time until we find out more about who Alan Tudyk (and maybe even some other secret stars) are playing in Superman.
