“The One With the SWAT Team” was never a Friends episode, but this hypothetical title now applies to one of the show’s biggest stars. In recent years, there has been a dark trend of sending the police to the homes of others in an effort to get them into trouble or even get them killed. Most recently, Jennifer Aniston was the victim of one of these dangerous pranks and had a SWAT team sent to her home.

Prank Call Wellness Check

Just how the heck does somebody go about swatting one of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities? The prankster apparently knew the Friends star’s address and called the police, claiming that a friend at the address was “not doing well” and wanted the cops to conduct a wellness check. Accordingly, Jennifer Aniston’s home got a visit from the local SWAT team, whose arrival seriously confused the actor’s security team.

Until they arrived, the police didn’t know whose home they were going to, and they only found out by speaking to her security squad. Fortunately, it sounds like Jennifer Aniston won’t be getting another visit from the SWAT team again, as the police wrote down her address and made note of the fact that it was previously the subject of a prank wellness check. Should the same prankster or anyone else make a similar attempt, the police will contact Aniston’s security team before visiting her home.

Further Investigation Needed

Some fans of Jennifer Aniston were relieved by how all of this got resolved: the SWAT team and her security team didn’t clash, and authorities took measures to ensure the Hollywood star doesn’t get any more unwanted visits from the police due to the actions of online trolls. All’s well that ends well, right? However, the police believe that this wasn’t a harmless prank and that Aniston was “swatted,” something that merits further investigation.

Swatting Pranks Are Growing

What the heck is swatting, you may ask? This is a prank where someone arranges to have armed police sent to a person’s home, usually by telling the authorities that the resident is a danger to themselves (Jennifer Aniston’s prankster got the SWAT team to show up by alluding to a “friend” being suicidal) or others. The typical goal of such a prank is simply to freak the target out when police visit their home, though there have been incidents where swatting victims were hurt or killed.

Why The Friends Star?

Right now, we only know that the police are treating the prank targeting Aniston as a swatting attempt. That may mean that they have additional information that hasn’t been released about the nature of this prank or even who was behind it. Alternatively, they may be approaching this situation very cautiously because Jennifer Aniston is a beloved celebrity and the fact that a SWAT team could so easily be sent to her house is downright embarrassing.

America’s Girl Next Door

As for us, we’re just happy that the star is okay after getting swatted. Friends helped make Jennifer Aniston into America’s favorite girl next door, and her iconic hair on that show influenced entire generations of fans. Sadly, she wasn’t able to prevent costar Courteney Cox from getting the world’s worst haircut for Scream 3, and her short locks in that film gave us more trauma than a SWAT team and Ghostface combined.
