The Best Horror Comedy Of The Last Decade Heads To Hulu

By Britta DeVore | Published

Are you ready? Next month, fans will welcome the best of the genre, blending horror and comedy, to a new streaming home as Ready or Not pops out from its hiding place and arrives on Hulu. Starring Samara Weaving in what could easily be considered the role that put her on the map, and directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (known collectively as Radio Silence), the movie is an incredibly fun romp with buckets on buckets of blood and gore.

A Fight For Survival

In Ready or Not, which slashed its way onto Hulu with a slew of other seasonal selections on October 1, Weaving stars as Grace, a woman who thinks she’s found her perfect partner in Mark O’Brien’s Alex Le Domas.

Having grown up in foster homes, it means everything to the bride-to-be that her fiance’s family is a tight-knit group with the added bonus that they’re incredibly wealthy thanks to their generations-long business in the board game industry. But, on the couple’s wedding night, Grace discovers that not all is as it seems after it’s revealed that she’s to be used as the sacrifice for a ritual – that is unless she can make it through the night.

The Cast

Along with Weaving and O’Brien, the movie also features some killer performances from the likes of Adam Brody (Jennifer’s Body), Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day), Henry Czerny (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), and more. Ready or Not marks the second title of Samara Weaving’s to end up on Hulu, as she’s also a featured performer in the hit series Nine Perfect Strangers.

From Radio Silence Productions

After participating as contributors to the original film from the V/H/S anthology franchise, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Radio Silence Productions unleashed terror onto the world with Devil’s Due and Southbound.

Ready or Not would be the team’s first project to really explode in popularity, giving Hulu subscribers yet another reason to check it out in October. The pair would go on to pick up the torch from the late Wes Craven and continue the Scream franchise with its fifth and sixth installments, the latter of which also featured Samara Weaving.

The Makers Of Abigail

Since then, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett have parted ways with the folks behind Scream, largely in part due to their desire to make a monster movie for Universal. That dream came to chilling life earlier this year when the team dropped yet another genius horror comedy, this time a revamped version of the story of Dracula’s daughter in Abigail. Unfortunately for those who end up loving Ready or Not when it’s on Hulu, Abigail is resting over at Peacock and likely won’t move any time soon as the streamer is owned by Universal.

Streaming On Hulu

Just in case you needed more of a push to add Ready or Not to your Hulu queue for the spooky season, the movie is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting an 89 percent critics score. At the box office, the movie raked in nearly $58 million against its $6 million budget, proving that genre fans love a bit of comedy mixed in with their horror.

See what all the hype is about now that Ready or Not has haunted its way onto Hulu.
