pretty Little Liars Season 2

The latest version of Pretty Little Liars has been canceled after just two seasons. It saw the long-running teen crime franchise move to the streaming platform Max, but the service won’t be moving forward with the show. For fans, it’s a disappointing announcement, cutting big teases and unresolved plot points short.

Pretty Little Liars Canceled

The version of Pretty Little Liars being canceled was a reboot originally airing in 2022. It followed a group of teen girls tormented by someone going by the moniker A.

The group tries to figure out who is tormenting them, leading them to discover their mothers were involved in the death of a classmate in 1999.

Set in the same continuity as the franchise it takes its name from, it added to the web of lies, secrets, and revenge the series is known for.

A Talented Cast

Pretty Little Liars being canceled is a shame for its talented ensemble cast. Actresses Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, and Malia Reficco formed the central group of characters in the show’s expansive main cast.

That large cast was rounded out by Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Elena Goode, Eric Johnson, Aiono, Lea Salonga, Jordan Gonzalez, and Elias Kacavas.

Never Got A Proper Finale

Adding to the disappointment over Pretty Little Liars being canceled is the fact that it didn’t get the opportunity for a proper finale.

The second season teased many new secrets and revelations that didn’t get to pay off. A final season could have let the show go out on a high note, instead, it will have an anti-climactic ending.

While the latest Pretty Little Liars series has been canceled, the franchise has been well served over the years. Beginning as a series of novels by Sara Shepard the franchise has grown to include four TV series, a web series, and a spin-off novel series.

The newest show’s ending is sure to disappoint some fans, but there’s plenty of material set in the world for them to enjoy.

Tough For Spin-Offs

The Max version of Pretty Little Liars is the latest spin-off to be canceled early in the franchise. In fact, it’s the only spin-off to receive a second season with Ravenswood and The Perfectionists both ending after a single season.

While the spin-offs have kept the franchise alive, they’ve struggled to recapture the popularity of the first show.

Of course, Pretty Little Liars being canceled doesn’t guarantee it’s coming to an end in the modern era. Its connection to a popular franchise and its history with the Freeform network could lead to it being picked up by a new company. Its unresolved plot points could also be picked up in a future show set within the same world.

What’s Next For The Franchise?

It’s not uncommon for TV shows to conclude without a proper narrative ending, but it’s always a major disappointment for fans. Pretty Little Liars is the latest show canceled without its creative team knowing ahead of time, but it certainly won’t be the last.

It’s hard to say where the franchise will head next, after the disappointing conclusion of the reboot series, but it’s all but guaranteed to return in some form eventually.
