The Battlestar Galactica Star Crossover With A Fan-Favorite Sitcom
What do NBC’s fan-favorite sitcom, Community, and Battlestar Galactica have in common? Not much, actually, except for Tricia Helfer. The actress portrayed Number Six on the sci-fi series from 2004 to 2009. But in 2013, she paid homage to all of her superfans by playing one herself in an episode of Community.
Tricia Helfer As Lauren In Community
In the Season 4 Community episode “Conventions of Space and Time,” Tricia Helfer cameos as Lauren, a lady that Joel McHale’s Jeff meets in a hotel lobby while accompanying his Greendale study group friends to a sci-fi convention. It was the perfect role for the BSG star, as we can only imagine Helfer encountered plenty of sci-fi superfans through the years.
Tricia Helfer Encounters Plenty Of Laurens At Conventions
In an interview with W. Andrew Powell for The Gate, Tricia Helfer admitted that her experience meeting sci-fi superfans has usually been pleasant, similar to the character she portrayed on Community. She described her real-life encounters during conventions as “pleasant,” and alluded to meeting more “Laurens” than you might expect.
However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows with some superfans. Tricia Helfer did note one not-so-pleasant experience with a fan at a convention. The actress says one guy treated her like “property” and decided that it was okay to kiss her.
Conventions Of Space And Time
In the Community episode, Jeff was also about to try and lay one on Tricia Helfer’s Lauren. Suspecting that this lovely lady couldn’t possibly be in town for the convention, he flirts with Lauren, admitting that he ditched the nerd convention.
Lo and behold, Lauren is, in fact, there for the convention, and even mistakes Jeff for an actor from her favorite series, Inspector Spacetime. To make things for Jeff even worse, Annie, who has feelings for Jeff and is sharing a hotel room with him, decides now is the perfect time to pretend she is his wife.
Putting on a show for hotel staff and calling room service as Mrs. Winger, a staff member alerts Annie that her husband has been located in the hotel bar flirting with another woman. Still playing the part, Annie ends up confronting Jeff and Tricia Helfer’s character, dumping a drink over her friend’s face.
Tricia Helfer Continues Building Her Fanbase
Tricia Helfer continues making superfans all over the world. The actress starred in the popular procedural Lucifer for four seasons, and continued appearing in guest roles in shows like The Librarians, Suits, and S.W.A.T.
The actress will appear in the upcoming genre mashup Primitive War. In this film, Vietnam soldiers face off against dinosaurs in what looks like Apocalypse Now meets Jurassic Park. The movie is slated to release sometime in 2025.
We Can Hope For A Cameo In The Community Movie
Tricia Helfer’s Battlestar Galactica and Community have had long-planned comebacks in the works. As of now, the Battlestar Galactica reboot has been officially canceled. However, the Community movie is still a go, and we can only hope that somehow, some way, Tricia Helfer’s Lauren can find her way into the film.
