Last Chance To Catch Classic ’90s Action Horror Movie On Amazon

For those that aren’t familiar with From Dusk Till Dawn, the film centers on a pair of bank-robbing brothers named Seth and Richie Gecko as they shoot, rob, and wreck their way through the South of Texas.

Seth is the level-headed brother in charge of drawing up plans and strategies, while Richie is more concerned with committing acts of sexual assault and torture as a means to satisfy his bizarre psychopathic urges.

While looking for a quick escape from the law, the Gecko brothers come across a pastor named Jacob Fuller, who is vacationing with his teenage children in an inconspicuous RV.

The Gecko brothers kidnap the family. They force Fuller to escort them safely into Mexico and deliver them to a rendezvous point at a strip club over the border.

When the gang arrives at the club, From Dusk Till Dawn takes a sharp left turn into a completely different style of film, offering one of the most jarring genre pivots ever committed to the screen.

If you’re not aware of what happens next, I won’t spoil it for you here, though suffice is to say, the film takes on a supernatural element that you definitely won’t see coming.

If you’re thinking From Dusk Till Dawn has all the hallmarks of a Quentin Tarantino film, including jarring music, witty naturalistic dialogue, and ultra-violent set pieces, you’re absolutely correct.

Tarantino actually wrote the screenplay for the film based on a treatment by Robert Kurtzman as his first-ever paid screenwriting assignment.

The Hateful Eight filmmaker originally received a payment of $1,500 to churn out the screenplay for From Dusk Till Dawn, which was originally meant to be directed by Kurtzman on a shoestring budget of only $1 million.

After his first few directorial successes with Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, Tarantino was finally able to make From Dusk Till Dawn happen, with his close friend and collaborator Robert Rodriguez in the director’s chair.

George Clooney and Harvey Keitel lead the cast of the action-packed film, with career-high performances from Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Salma Hayek, and Quentin Tarantino himself.

Though the movie received mixed reviews upon release, it has since become a revered cult classic, enjoyed by new and returning viewers alike with each passing year.

Personally, I love everything about From Dusk Till Dawn, and I might wind up watching it 5 more times before it leaves Amazon Prime Video at the end of the month.

I first caught this movie when I was a kid, and rapidly came to love the genre-pivot niche, which also includes Event Horizon, Sorry To Bother You, and Adaptation.
