Mickey 17 Kills Robert Pattinson In Space
What do you get when you combine Robert Pattinson, Bong Joon-Ho, science fiction, space travel, human replication, dark laughs, and a ton of action? Well, from the looks of things, you get Mickey 17, the upcoming sci-fi black comedy from this group. It looks like it delivers in almost every way imaginable.
The trailer for Mickey 17 just hit and takes us on a tour de force of hilarity with Robert Pattinson’s Mickey Barnes, figuring out there are just a few more of him than he originally bargained for in his trek off of Earth. Did he sign up for this fate? Sure, but that doesn’t make the situation any better.

Mickey 17 is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, and tells the story of Robert Pattinson’s titular character who, in some distant future, has signed up to be an expendable.
In this world, an expendable is a human who has essentially become a disposable employee, one sent to do the dangerous grunt work. The catch here is that each time Mickey (or any expendable) dies, they are brought back to life through regeneration. And when that happens, they are put right back to work.

Oh, and the new versions of Mickey 17 have a completely intact memory of what happened before. This means Robert Pattinson’s character has essentially signed himself up for lifetimes and lifetimes of tedious work, terrible bosses, general unhappiness, and, of course, plenty of gruesome deaths. It’s a wash, rinse, repeat of dark and comedic situations.
The catch in Mickey 17 comes when Robert Pattinson’s character wakes up to find there are multiples of him, other versions who have their own ideas about survival in this world. What appears to ensue is all manner of craziness with Pattinson’s Mickey not only at odds with “himself’ but also a corporate hierarchal structure looking to take him, and all of his multiples, out of the picture.
Mickey17 is from director Bong Joon-Ho, one of the very best in the business. He’s made award-winning and fan-favorite flicks like The Host, Snowpiercer, and, of course, Parasite, which took home Best Picture in 2019.
In addition to Robert Pattinson, Mickey 17 includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo
In addition to Robert Pattinson, Mickey 17 has an all-star cast of completely ridiculous-looking characters. The trailer gives us glimpses of Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The latter two appear to be part of the corporate group looking to take out Pattinson’s Mickey.
There is considerable anticipation for Mickey 17, which makes a lot of sense considering the flick’s star and director team. With a budget of $150 million, they went big with this film, and the trailer indicates that it completely pays off.
Mickey 17 is due in U.S. theaters on January 31, 2025, though it will be released a few days prior in South Korea. In all, there’s reason to think this movie is in awards conversation when it’s all said and done, though the early 2025 release timing does cloud that just a bit.
